The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at Meeker strives to provide fun activities and learning experiences for all students and support Meeker teachers and staff. All Meeker families are invited to be involved with the PTO whether that’s helping at events, chipping in for teacher appreciation events, or attending an upcoming meeting to see what it’s all about.
The Meeker PTO meets via Zoom on the third Monday of each month at 8 p.m. Upcoming meetings are scheduled for October 19 and November 16. We hope you’ll join us!

We are looking forward to seeing our students in person again! Please read the information below so we can all get off to a good start together on-site.
Return to Learn Information:
50% Hybrid Learning Model:
The Ames School Board approved to move to the 50% face-to-face hybrid instructional model beginning on Monday, September 21st. The Hybrid calendar below indicates which days groups 1/2 and 3/4 will attend in-person. On the days when not in the school building, students will participate in largely asynchronous learning. (Please note that this Hybrid calendar is mapped out until winter break, but our delivery model is subject to change based on COVID-19 metrics).
Students were previously assigned to a cohort group 1-4. Those same groups will be used for the 50% hybrid model with groups 1/2 and 3/4 being combined. If you are unsure what cohort group your student is in, please email the teacher.
Transportation – Parents, please check your emails today as updated bus route information will be sent out. If you have questions, please reach out to email@example.com.

Meeker Return to Learn Presentation:
Here is a link to our back to school presentation
. It includes parent options, school safety plans and a demonstration video.
New School Hours:
School will be in session from 8:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m every day. We will NOT be having early dismissal on Wednesdays this year.
Students, staff members and all visitors will be required to wear face coverings when on-site. Students will not wear face coverings at recess.
Visitors: Parents/younger siblings and visitors will be discouraged from entering the building. If you need to drop off any student materials (including lunches), drop a student off late or pick a student up early, please ring the doorbell and we will communicate with you about what you need. All school grounds are closed to visitors during school hours.
A message from the Nurse’s office:
When we assess your student for illness we will use the model given to us by the Iowa Department of Public Health: People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness.
HIGH RISK SYMPTOMS:
New cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell
LOW RISK SYMPTOMS (2 or more symptoms):
Fever, headache, muscle and body aches, fatigue, sore throat, runny nose, congestion,
nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
During our building specific meetings we shared a symptom checklist that we ask parents to go over with each of your student(s) each day prior to coming to school. COVID-19 Symptom Checklist
If your student has any
high risk symptom or two or more
low risk symptoms, they should stay home and are advised to seek an evaluation by a healthcare provider. If they are at school and show signs of the above symptoms, they will be taken to the sick room, and for the safety of all, they will be sent home. If you are notified by the health office staff that your student is ill at school, please plan to pick your student up within 30 minutes. We would ask that you also have a back-up plan so that ill students can be picked up as quickly as possible but within 30 minutes if you are not available.
A message from the Art teacher:
Students will need to bring all of the supplies from the supply list when they come to school. This includes their Art supplies.
A message from the Media Center:
Students: When you come to school next week, please remember to bring your computer fully charged (please plug it in before you go to bed, and put a reminder note on your backpack or the front door, so you do not forget it). Bring your computer and charger to school safely secured in your backpack and bring it into the classroom with you. You will be bringing it back and forth to school everyday.
If your student is having technology problems, please fill out this form and someone from our tech department will reach out to you. Tech Support Form
A message from the Chorus teacher:
Due to Covid restrictions and guidelines, I am going to delay our 4th and 5th grade chorus. After winter break I will reassess and see if chorus is something we can do safely at Meeker.
We will NOT be having Lifetouch come into Meeker this year to take school pictures.
This year will be different, and there may be a lot of changes and contingency plans. We will be flexible, and we will communicate if/when things change. The Meeker staff is still committed to helping our students the best we can, no matter the circumstances. Let’s make it a good year together!
