Summer Food Service Program Update
The Ames Community School District is continuing to participate in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) through August 7, 2020. This is the same “grab and go” meal program where we were able to provide breakfast and lunch to all children without charge.
Locations – Meals will continue to be provided at Meeker, Mitchell and Sawyer Elementary Schools, in addition to the Ames Public Library. (Note: we previously communicated that meals would end at Mitchell Elementary, but this is no longer the case.)
Time – breakfast and lunch will be provided from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. starting on June 22.

Student Laptop Turn-in Update
As we approach the end of the school year calendar, we are organizing our laptop turn-in process. Due to COVID-19, we have made some changes this year and will only be collecting laptops from seniors and students who are leaving the District. All other students will be able to keep their devices over the summer months.
Students leaving the District should plan to turn in their laptops at the District Office (2005 24th St.) from June 2nd – 4th:
June 2nd – Students with the last name that starts with A-H
June 3rd – Students with the last name that starts with I-R
June 4th – Students with the last name that starts with S-Z
We will also allow parents/guardians who do not want to keep the devices over the summer to turn them in at the same dates as above. Please fill out this form so we know the numbers coming in.

Here are a few reminders and updates on the grab-and-go meals that are being provided at Meeker, Mitchell, and Sawyer Elementary Schools.
Meals will continue to be provided, Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m, with weekend meals provided on Friday. The meals in their current format will be continued through August 7 at Meeker and Sawyer Elementary Schools. Meals provided at Mitchell Elementary will end on June 30 due to specific federal waivers not being extended.
Summer School & Return to Learn Update 4.28.20
As a District, we have been working on the calendar portion of our Return to Learn Plan and will be expanding our team to include building administrators this week. Once we receive guidance from the Department of Education, we will combine our work with the template provided to us. The deadline to submit our Return to Learn Plan is July 1.
In order to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community volunteers, we will not be providing summer school (Enrich, Empower, Excel) this year. The situation is too unstable for us to plan effectively and we are not wanting to put any of our students or staff at risk. We are exploring various models to provide additional instruction time and intervention for when we return to school.
Governor Reynolds announced that she is recommending that Iowa school districts close for four weeks to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Effective Monday, March 16, all school buildings, events, practices, and activities are canceled until further notice.
During this time of COVID-19 Closure, we want to still provide timely tech support to students and staff as needed while following the guidelines set forth to minimize exposure and increase safety.

Family Support Services:
As a reminder, we have set up a Google Form that students, families, or community members can fill out to help the Ames Community School District identify families in need. Building principals are working with school counselors and school Student and Family Advocates to identify families who would benefit from food and supplies. We will be coordinating with community partners in this effort to serve our families.
