Physical Education Exemptions

Medical Exemptions

Iowa law requires students to present documentation for medical exemptions and excuses from a doctor and present the documentation to the school nurse. The school nurse will issue a medical excuse slip for the student to present to the P.E. teacher before class. Please note, a temporary or permanent disability in one part of the body does not necessarily exclude a student from Physical Education. We encourage students with medical restrictions to individualize and modify their movement activities to seek their personal limits. This is an important lifetime skill for students to experience and acquire.

Excuses for Special Circumstances

Students or their parents or guardians may seek to be excused from P.E.  for special circumstances. The student’s  physical education teacher will evaluate the requests. Generally, a student healthy enough to be in school should be able to participate at some level.
