EVEN Block Day
Congratulations to Ames High DECA on their outstanding performance at the State Competition. Every single competitor was on stage and received an award. They came home with:
10 – First Place, 5 – Second Place, 4 – Third Place and 1 – Honorable Mention.
Congratulations to Alina Markutsya for being elected as Vice President of Iowa DECA and to Adrian Guan for being elected as Iowa DECA President. Shrey Patel is the outgoing Iowa President. This is the first time Ames High has held the President’s seat in back to back years.
They are now all off to the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia in April! Good luck to all!
The deadline to submit to Scratch Pad is March 4. You have ONE WEEK to submit your original art, photography, poetry, and short fiction for this year’s publication. Email ahsscratchpad@ames.k12.ia.us to enter your submissions!
If you are a SENIOR and are interested in participating in the Senior Art Show, come to the special meeting in ART C during Plus Period on Friday, March 4th to get more information. If you are unable to make the meeting but are interested in participating, email one of the AHS Art teachers before the meeting date.
Students – If you registered for an AP Exam for second semester and you have not paid, please make the payment in RevTrak by no later than February 28. If payment is not received, the exam will not be ordered.
If you registered for the ACT/SAT Prep Class and you have not paid, please make the payment in RevTrak TODAY. Payment is required in order to attend the prep class which begins on February 28. Also, if you registered for the evening prep class, it has been canceled. If you are interested in the afternoon class, please see Mrs. Monroe in student services.
Tickets for the Winter Musical Seussical are now available for sale in the auxiliary office. $10 Adults 9th grade and above, $8 for 8th grade and below. Shows are February 25 and 26 at 7:30 pm and 2:00 pm Sunday, February 27. Skip the line and purchase your ticket in advance!
The Ames High Culture Fair is back again! This is a fair for different cultures, ethnicities, and countries to show off their heritage through a booth that they will create for the fair. Countries may have taste tests and performances at the event. This is a great chance to show off your country and learn a little something while you create your poster during our workshop times. We are looking for people to create booths for their country! This will be held Saturday, March 26 from 12-2pm. If you are interested or need more information, please look for the Ames High Culture Fair Posters that will be put up around the school to sign up or use the Google form to sign up. If you have any questions please reach out to Mrs. Muhammad, Manab Jaily, or Riitka Tappeta.
Attention current Sophomores and Juniors: if you are interested in being part of the Ames Chapter of the National Honor Society next year, you can pick up an application in the Auxiliary Office or access and print out an application online. Current NHS members do not need to reapply. Applications are due Thursday, March 24th at 3 PM in Room 229.
Boys Basketball playoff tickets for Friday night’s substate semifinal boys basketball game are now on sale. Tickets must be purchased online for $6 prior to the game. No cash purchases are permitted at the gate. Because it is a postseason game; regular season passes, punch cards, or student activity tickets are not valid.
Do you like to bowl? If you are interested in participating in bowling next year during the winter season, please stop in the activities office this week and add your name to the sign up sheet. This would be an official team sport for the 22/23 school year.
A College Representative from St. Cloud State University will be in the cafeteria Tuesday, March 1st during all Lunch periods.
The Army will be at the table in the Lobby Tuesday, March 1st during all Lunch periods.
Seniors, Please check Naviance for the Payer Family Scholarship. The scholarship is for $3,000 for the student’s first year of college. Also, the student must attend a college in Iowa. If the student continues their post-secondary education and meets the requirements outlined in Naviance, the student could be eligible to receive $3,000 per year for three additional years. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2022. Naviance has many scholarship opportunities.
On Tuesday, March 1, SACRE is hosting “The Reminders”, a musical group that performs reggae, soul, hip hop, and spoken word. They will be visiting to perform and facilitate a discussion about Positive Self Expression Through Music. Please join us over your lunch period on Tuesday in the MPR for the performance. Freshmen and Sophomores who want to attend, please get passes from Mrs. Muhammad on Monday or Tuesday morning during one of your free periods to leave the cafeteria during your lunch period.
Today’s lunch is Breaded BBQ Chicken Drumstick, Mexican Street Corn and Cornbread.
