EVEN Block Day

Senior Picnic on Wednesday, May 25 from 11:30 – 2:00 PM at Inis Grove Park (Walnut Shelter). Tickets are on sale today through May 20th. Tickets cost $5. You must have a ticket to attend. Sub sandwich, chips, cookies, water. See Mrs. Steenhagen in Student Services to buy your ticket.

Attention CURRENT SOPHOMORES, please check your email to fill out the 2022 Junior Homecoming Co-Chair application! You must apply with one other person and applications are due May 31st. Contact Kendra Goodwin or Katie Strotman with questions. 

Come see the spring play Puffs tonight at 7:30 in the auditorium. Tickets are available at the door and are $10 for adults and $5 for children 8th grade or younger. Ames High activity passes will be accepted for admission. The play hilariously tells the story of a certain boy wizard at a certain school of magic through the eyes of the secondary characters.

Fall is right around the corner and that means it’s cross country season! If you are a girl and are interested in joining a team that has a great team atmosphere and gets to run, then come down to Mr. Anderson’s room (B-1) after school on May 24th to sign up and get all the information that you will need for the summer and fall! We hope to see you there!

Anyone interested in joining boys cross-country next fall please come to an informational meeting after school on the 26th in the gym. We will discuss training and the upcoming season. See you then!

How would you like to be an AHS ambassador next year? Student ambassadors help new students as they transition to Ames High School. Transferring to a new school can be rough so we need students who are willing to take them to their classes on their first day once they arrive. If interested, please sign up to be an AHS Ambassador. If you have questions contact Ms. DiBlasi or Isabel Wolf.

Schönen Guten Tag, AHS!  On Wednesday, May 18th at 6:30 PM in the Multipurpose Room the seniors in German 4 will be hosting Deutsch Abend for the first time since Covid started!  Please join us for some fun student-made films and German food!  

Today’s lunch is Jumbo Crispy Chicken Tenders, Boston Baked Beans and Fresh Baked Biscuit.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, sometimes as early as 12:10, a line begins forming outside a room at Edwards Elementary. Anxious students duck in and out, checking the board for their name and if they are part of group one or two. Phrases like, “Did you sign up?” and “You’re in the second group,” echo through the hallway. Excitement is palpable as students weave in and out with lunch in hand. Excitement brought because of the opportunity to play chess. …

Ames High School students participated in the Octagon Center for the Arts annual student show. This show highlights artwork by local elementary, middle, and high school students. In a reception held on Thursday, May 5, 2022, three of the six awards were given to student artists from AHS. Congratulations to:

• Lorna Schuckert for winning the Jeffrey L. Brown Best of Show Award for her “Ancestry Nesting Dolls.”
• Derek Peng for earning the Jeffrey L. Brown Memorial Photography Award for his photo “Cue.” 
• Emma Brockman for earning a Juror Choice award sponsored by Ames Silversmithing for her photo “Beautiful Wonders.”

ODD Block Day

Dance Marathon is TONIGHT!! We’ll have a lot of free food, games, and dancing, and we’ll give away a couple of raffle prizes each hour. In addition, some families of Miracle Kids will be here to share their stories with us, and we’ll reveal how much money we’ve raised for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital this year. 

*As a reminder, it’s from 8:00-11:00 in the gym. Doors will open at 8:00. Please enter through the pool entrance (what you would have used at Homecoming). Tickets and t-shirts WILL be sold at the door, and we’ll keep the doors open until 11:00, but we’ll stop selling tickets at the door at 10:00, so if you think you’ll be later than 10:00, buy your ticket during lunch or after school today. Tickets and t-shirts are $10 each, or you can purchase both for a combo deal of $15. 

*If you need more info, ask Mrs. Seibert, but we’ll have food from places like: Crumbl, Hickory Park, Noodles, Old Chicago, Culver’s, Blaze, Humble Donuts, Perkins, Texas Roadhouse (rolls), multiple pizza places, and more, and we’ll have several games in gym 2 (basketball, bean bags, four square, ping pong, and maybe some Wii games, etc.). It’s going to be awesome!

Tonight Ames High Baseball is kicking off their season with a Marathon Game. This is a continuous intersquad scrimmage. 8th/9th will play from 4:00-5:30. 10th/JV will play from 5:45-7:15 and Varsity will play from 7:30-9:00 pm. There will be raffle prizes, games and opportunities to meet the team and hear from coaches. Free admission into the game. Hope to see you there.

We will be discussing freedom of speech, including Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter and the new disinformation governance board. Anyone interested in talking about current events or learning more about YAF should attend.

P7 club will host their last meeting of the year today in Mrs. Jurgensen’s room (Rm 7) during plus period!. P7 club will also host an end-of-the-year party tonight from 6-8 pm at New Life Church (3505 S. Duff Ave.). Food (including s’mores) will be provided. Come for fun games, prizes, and a bonfire! Even if you haven’t been to a meeting this year and want to see what P7 is all about, we want to see YOU there. All high school Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to attend.
