INFORMATION:

Ames High Drop-Off and Pick-Up Adjustments

In an effort to reduce traffic congestion and to help maintain the safety of our students, we are implementing a few adjustments to the student drop-off and pick-up routine at Ames High School. All adjustments outlined below will be implemented on Monday, October 25.

The route in front of Ames High: The most noticeable adjustment will be in front of our building. Prior to the construction of the new building, there were two turnaround circles, one in front of the main office and the other in front of the athletic wing. Those have since been consolidated into one route.

Effective Monday, drivers will be required to utilize the entire length of the building to enter and exit the drop-off/pick-up route. White stakes will be installed to prevent turning around immediately in front of the main office entrance. For example, when entering the drive in front of the building from 20th Street, drivers will only be able to turn around and exit by driving the length of the building and turning around in front of the athletic wing. During those high traffic times in the morning and afternoon, we are asking drivers to not stop immediately in front of the main office entrance, but rather follow the vehicle in front of you and proceed as close to the athletic entrance as possible.

20th Street Additional Adjustments: The extended 20th Street past the building entrance leads to staff parking and is used for bussing. No cars should utilize this area as a turnaround area. We will set a temporary stop sign on 20th Street just before the main entry drive. Bus and staff traffic leaving the north lot will stop before crossing the main entry drive.

We are also eliminating parking along the south side of 20th Street next to the construction zone, which will allow for two lanes to be utilized for eastbound traffic leaving the high school.

Please use caution and care and be observant when using the main drive at the High School. Proceed slowly and watch for student walkers and bicyclists. Thank you!

Senior Photos – One of the great traditions for seniors is getting their chosen senior photo printed in the yearbook. This year the deadline is Friday, Jan. 14th. It has to be a vertical image, and it must be submitted as a high resolution .jpg (300 dpi). We will use a 5X7 aspect ratio, though the actual print size will be smaller. Please submit photos to the Yearbook email address: yearbook@ames.k12.ia.us

We will send out responses roughly once a week to confirm that we received them. If you have any questions, please email Mr. Webb: james.webb@ames.k12.ia.us

AP Exam Registration – Payments Needed – A quick reminder that payment for AP Exams needs to be made in RevTrak or by check no later than Monday, November 1, 2021. Unfortunately, only exams that have been paid for will be ordered. If you have questions, please contact Catherine Monroe.

Drop Dates for Fall Semester Online Courses at DMACC: Last day to drop Full Semester courses running 8/25 – 12/16 and have a W on the transcript is Thursday, November 4, 2021.

Save The Date: Lifetouch will be back at Ames High School on Tuesday, Nov. 16. Watch for more information at a later date.

ON-LINE PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE SCHEDULER SIGN-UP FOR AMES HIGH SCHOOL

Signup started on Monday, October 18, 2021

Conference Schedule:

Parent/Teacher conferences are:

  • 3:30 to 7:30 PM on Tuesday, October 26
  • 3:30 to 7:30 PM on Thursday, October 28
  • 1:30 to 3:30 PM on Friday, October 29

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Any parent/guardian of an Ames High School Student without internet access may email Catherine Monroe between 7:15 AM and 3:15 PM for assistance with scheduling conferences.
  • Conferences are 10 minutes in length. Parents will be forced to have a ten-minute break in between conferences to allow for travel time between conferences
  • Conference times are for teachers to share relevant information regarding student progress and a few minutes for questions and discussion. While students may have up to ten teachers, it is not necessary to schedule a conference with each teacher. Many teachers serve more students than they will have available conference time slots for. Infinite Campus, email, and phone calls are all options for regular communication between families and schools. Selecting two to three teachers who you’d most like to visit with might be the best option if you’re not planning on coming multiple evenings.
  • The following courses will not count towards your four registered conferences: ELP, BAND, CHORUS, ORCHESTRA, ALP, and SPECIAL ED. These courses will be WALK-IN conferences, however, teachers may reach out to you to request a conference in these subject areas.

DIRECTIONS FOR REGISTERING FOR CONFERENCES

  1. Use the Parent/Student login for scheduling parent/teacher conferences for Ames High School students only.
  2. Enter your student’s formal first and last name. Your ACCESS CODE is your student’s date of birth. For example for Feb. 4, 1999 enter 02/04/1999. (If a student who attends Ames High School is from a split family and the parents are going to attend separate conferences, please call 817-0620 to have an account created for computer access for the second parent.)
  3. The student’s schedule will appear. Enter your email address (bottom of the screen) and click SUBMIT EMAIL ADDRESS. This will enable you to receive an email reminder of the conferences you have scheduled.
  4. Click SCHEDULE to the right of any class you want to schedule a conference. The teacher’s available times will appear. Pick the time you want — open circles (radio buttons) are available to be selected — and click SCHEDULE TIME at the bottom of the screen.
  5. If you realize you need to change the time, go to the student’s schedule. To the right of the conference you want to change, click on CHANGE. Then CLEAR, then SCHEDULE TIME.
  6. Please honor the conference times you schedule. If you are unable to attend a conference you have scheduled, please cancel as soon as possible. You can cancel online or call 817-0620 to cancel the conference for you. This will allow another family to schedule that time slot and it keeps the teacher from turning away another parent because the time slot was being saved for you. Canceling as soon as you know you won’t be able to attend a conference shows consideration for other families who are trying to see the same teacher.
