High School Required Options:
Ames High School will be providing Required Educational Services to students beginning Monday, April 20. The required option was chosen over the voluntary option because it provides the greatest flexibility for our students and families. The required option allows students to receive credit and progress toward meeting graduation requirements during this extended closure period. The voluntary option would not allow teachers to grade and award credit for work done during this time. Ames High teachers and staff have been preparing for what continuous learning looks like for their students and yesterday afternoon communicated the options available to students. In order to provide students with increased flexibility, several options are available to students. All options result in full credit awarded for passing grades.
● Option 1 – Continue learning and work for the remaining essential standards identified by teacher groups. The final grade will reflect this work combined with the grade prior to school closure.
● Option 2 – Work with a teacher to improve a grade in a class based on reassessment or completion of work assigned prior to school closure.
● Option 3 – Take the letter grade that was in place as of March 13th for a course.
● Option 4 – Choose a pass / fail option for the class.
