Parallel is Ames High’s spring league ultimate team. If you have any interest in Ultimate frisbee, which is a non-contact team sport where opposing teams try to pass a frisbee to the opposing teams end zone, join our first informational practice on Sunday, March 8th from 1:30-2:30 pm at North River Valley Park. If you cannot make this practice for whatever reason but would like to learn more, email Alex Kovar or Jason Chen they’d be happy to fill you in!

A college representative from the University of Northern Iowa will be in Student Services today during Plus period. Please see Mrs. Monroe if you need a pass to visit with this college representatives.

Central Iowa Area FCA will hold its WINTER BLAST this coming Sunday, March 8 from 1-3 PM at Gilbert High School.  The topic is “Thrill and Agony in the Soul of an Athlete:  How to view depression and anxiety through God’s lens.” There is no cost for the event and snacks will be provided.  See Mrs. Dobernecker for more details.

Seniors, is there someone who has been influential in your spiritual life, and would make a great speaker at Baccalaureate? Would you like to audition as a solo or small group performer in vocal, instrumental, dance or dramatic reading?  Speaker nomination forms and audition applications are in the principal’s office and are due April 1.

Central Iowa Area FCA will hold its WINTER BLAST this coming Sunday, March 8 from 1-3 PM at Gilbert High School.  The topic is “Thrill and Agony in the Soul of an Athlete:  How to view depression and anxiety through God’s lens.” There is no cost for the event and snacks will be provided.  See Mrs. Dobernecker for more details.

Seniors, is there someone who has been influential in your spiritual life, and would make a great speaker at Baccalaureate? Would you like to audition as a solo or small group performer in vocal, instrumental, dance or dramatic reading?  Speaker nomination forms and audition applications are in the principal’s office and are due April 1.

Yuer Zhu, Ava Bruhn, Clara Fields, and Emily Kaminski had artwork selected to be showcased in the Youth Art Month show in Des Moines. Their artwork will be on display at the State Historical Building through the month of March. Yuer Zhu’s artwork was selected as the Sargent Art Best of Show Award Winner for the 2020 Youth Art Month Show. That is a very big honor!

  1. Copy the following address to your web browser. It will take you to a Parent/Student login for scheduling parent/teacher

2. Enter your student’s formal first and last name. Your ACCESS CODE is your student’s date of birth. For example for Feb. 4, 1999 enter 2/4/99. 

Note the “month” and “day” should not contain a zero prior to the number. 

(If a student is from a split family and the parents are going to attend separate conferences, please call 817-0620 to have an account created for computer access for the second parent.)

Auditions for the spring play will be held after school Tuesday and Wednesday in room 225 with Mr. Schmidt.  Come prepared with a short, comedic monologue.  

Contracting for a grade with pass/fail option is March 12. Get a form from your counselor if interested. This option needs to be renewed each semester.

Science in the City, a new club at the middle school needs high school mentors. As a Science in the City mentor, you’ll lead a team of 8th grade students, helping them to create a hands-on demo for an event on May 7. There is a mandatory meeting after school today in the media center where we will provide more information. Hope to see you there!

The deadline for the ACT/SAT prep class has been extended to Monday, February 24, at 3:05 PM. Please get your registration in as soon as possible to reserve your spot. Thank you! 

Seniors interested in qualifying for the Seal of Biliteracy are reminded to sign up for the STAMP test with Ms. Monroe in Student Services by today. Payment of $19.90 is required when you sign up. Checks or money orders can be made to “Ames High School.” Sorry, but we are not able to make change for a $20 bill.

Student Activity Tickets will not be valid for the two home playoff basketball games. All students will be required to pay $6 to enter the game. The girl’s will play at 5 p.m. on Saturday, and the boys will play at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Little Cyclone Hockey Senior Night this Saturday, Feb 22, at Ames/ISU Ice Arena.  Varsity puck drops at 4 pm with JV to follow.  Come out and cheer on the team and help celebrate our Senior Skaters.
