The Ames Community School District is excited to announce Sevond Cole as the new principal of Fellows Elementary School. Cole is currently the principal at Schaller-Crestland Elementary (PK-5) and Ridge View Middle School (6-8) within the Schaller-Crestland Community School District, a position he has held since 2018.

As principal, Cole has experience leading a large group of teachers and has created a safe and rigorous educational environment for students. He was responsible for evaluating staff and performing observations, providing professional development opportunities, and effectively addressing student behaviors. As the instructional leader for two buildings, Cole collaborated with teachers on the use of building and classroom data through a Professional Learning Community (PLC) structure. Cole also has experience in Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS), an initiative that was rolled out last year in the Ames Community School District.

In his cover letter to the District, Cole identified that one of his most valuable assets is his “ability to foster relationships with students, staff and parents,” in order to create a safe environment that focuses on student achievement. Cole received his Masters in Educational Administration from the University of South Dakota in 2018. Prior to his work as a principal, Cole was a teacher in the Fort Dodge Community School District and was the Head Wrestling Coach for Buena Vista University.

Cole’s contract will begin on July 1, 2020, pending school board approval. As a District, we are excited to begin working with Mr. Cole and look forward to his leadership at Fellows Elementary School and the vast knowledge that he will bring to the Ames Community School District.
