Healthiest Ames is organizing a collaborative, community project to provide face masks for every student in the Ames Community School District. The project is a two-pronged approach to making face masks available. Community volunteers are working to sew a large quantity of face masks, and Healthiest Ames is also organizing a campaign to collect financial donations to purchase face masks. The project will supply every student in the ACSD with at least one face mask. Ames Middle School and Ames High School students and Ames PTOs are currently working toward a successful outcome.
“We are hoping for widespread support from Ames community members as we work together to create a healthy environment for Ames students returning to school,” said Ann Thompson, Healthiest Ames Board.
To volunteer to sew face masks, contact Healthiest Ames Board member Gail Johnston at firstname.lastname@example.org. Patterns, directions, and an instructional video can be located on Healthiest Ames website: www.HealthiestAmes.org. Questions about sewing face masks should be sent to Johnston. Kits with materials needed to sew approximately 15 masks are available at Ames Community School District office, 2005 24th St., from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
To donate to the effort, financial contributions can be sent to: Healthiest Ames, PO Box 166, Ames, Iowa 50011. Donations are tax-deductible and checks should be made out to Healthiest Ames. Donations may also be made through the website.
