AUDITIONS FOR COMMENCEMENT SPEAKERS

Senior Senate will be selecting two members of the class of 2019 to speak at graduation on
May 26, 2019. Two students will be chosen to read original speeches. Auditions will be held the
morning of Wednesday, April 10 from 7:45AM to 8:55AM. All auditions are limited to five
minutes and the speaker will be expected to present a portion of his or her speech to members
of Senior Senate. Anyone who is a graduating member of the Ames High School class of 2019,
has a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and has shown overall good conduct has the opportunity to audition
by signing up with Mrs. Micalone in room 26 by noon on April 9. Audition times will be assigned
on a first come, first served basis.

ACCELERATION APPLICATIONS
Acceleration request forms for the 2019-2020 school year are now available. The deadline has
been moved to April 12. Any AHS student may pick up a form in the ELP alcove. All applicationscan be returned to the main office or MC-3 at AHS by April 12.
Note: Applications are ONLY needed for students pursuing an acceleration at Ames High during the 2019-2020 school year.

QUIZ BOWL NEWS
Quiz Bowl has been doing well this season bringing in first place at the QBTV tournament which has been aired on Medicom’s channel 22. Additionally, the team placed second at the State Championship Tournament this last weekend. Congratulations to them!

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
On Saturday, March 30, the Ames High School Science Olympiad team competed in the State
Tournament at the University of Northern Iowa. In individual events, team members won a total
of 13 gold medals, six silver medals, and one bronze medal. Ames High School won first place
overall, beating the second place team by 69 points. The team will travel to Cornell University in
June to compete at the National Tournament. Congratulations to the following team members,
Jason Chen, Andres Cordoba, Sophia Cordoba, Hannah Huang, Victoria Kyveryga, Jixiang Li,
James Lin, Sivani Manimaran, Jasper Shogren-Knaak, Steven Tian, Emily Poag, Rishabh
Swamy, Eddie Wei, Taylor Xu and Anyang Yu.

AP TEST PRE-MEETING

All students taking AP tests this spring will need to attend a mandatory pre-
administration meeting at 8:00 am on Wednesday, April 17 in the AHS cafeteria. The meeting
will hopefully be over by 8:45. Anyone who cannot attend needs to contact Mr. Burke in Student
Services before April 24.

AHS SOFTBALL

ATTENTION: All girls who plan to participate in the 2019 Ames High Softball program, there will
be a player/parent informational meeting on Monday, April 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the high school
cafeteria. All information pertaining to the upcoming season will be provided at the meeting,
please make sure a representative from your family is in attendance. Prior to the meeting, if you
