Culinary Competition

On March 27, 2015 culinary teams from area high schools met at the culinary training facilities of the Hunziker Building of DMACC for a “Chopped” style competition. The Ames High Family and Consumer Sciences Department took two teams and they placed first and second among the ten teams. Ames orange team members: Carlos Rivera, Eimilee Peel and Amber Olson placed FIRST.  They cooked flat iron steak strips, quinoa flavored with candy lemon heads & “cutie” clementine oranges, and paired it with an avocado guacamole side. The black team of Jo’Varres Hodges, Kimberly Reints and Mykah Kennedy placed SECOND. The experience was enjoyed by the students as they demonstrated their critical thinking skills and culinary expertise under the thrill of time constraints. Congratulations to these students who cooked outstanding meals!
