Superintendent Search

The Ames Community School District is currently searching for the next superintendent of Ames Public Schools. The Ames School Board approved Hazard, Young, Attea Associates (HYA) as the firm to assist in that process.

In August, a request for proposals (RFP) was sent to firms that provide Executive Search Consultant Services to aid in the selection of the next Superintendent of Ames Schools. Within that RFP, key dates were identified that outline the process:

  • RFP distributed – August 5, 2021
  • Search firm proposals due – August 27, 2021
  • Search firm interviews – prior to September 9, 2021
  • Search firm selection – September 13, 2021
  • Candidate pool presentation – January 4 -7, 2022
  • Board interviews candidates – prior to January 14, 2022
  • Finalist Interviews – week of January 17, 2022 

To aid in the search for the next Superintendent of Ames Public Schools, we are seeking stakeholder input on the state of the District. Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates (HYA), the firm that is assisting the District in the search, has posted a 2021 State of the District for Superintendent Search Survey on their website

The online survey will be accessible through Friday, October 15. Please answer all items to the best of your ability. The survey is being conducted by Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates, a third-party firm, which ensures that your responses are kept anonymous and confidential. Results of the survey will inform the development of a Leadership Profile Report presented to the School Board at a Work Session on Tuesday, October 26.

  • Online survey open – October 1 – October 15, 2021

  • Interviews and focus group meetings – October 14 & 15, 2021

  • Leadership Profile Report presented to Board – October 26, 2021

  • Seminar for interviews & final stages of search – January 4, 2022

  • Slate presented to Board – January 4, 2022

  • Board initial interviews – January 7 & 8, 2022

  • Board meets to identify semifinalists – January 10, 2022

  • Semi-finalist interviews – January 17-19, 2022

  • Board meets to identify preferred candidate – January 21, 2022

  • Superintendent assumes responsibilities – July 1, 2022
