Data and Reports

The terms data and assessment are often used synonymously. While gathering data through formative and summative assessments is important, the District also gathers information as it relates to social and emotional learning, school satisfaction, engagement, and more. This data guides not only instructional efforts, but also goal areas based on the District’s Purpose and Priorities. A systems approach to critical district functions that supports data-based decision making helps us strategically meet the diverse needs of all departments, families, and students.

Ames Community School District gives students a personalized learning experience from their first day of preschool until graduation. We’re a district that’s large enough to provide an internationally competitive education, with programming and activities enriched by community connections and infused with a variety of cultures, yet small enough for each student to find a niche.

The Iowa Department of Education released updates an online school accountability reporting system called the Iowa School Performance Profiles. This website shows how schools are performing on multiple measures and meets federal and state requirements for publishing report cards.

The Iowa School Performance Profiles include scores and ratings on a set of accountability measures, such as student growth and graduation rate, and additional data that are required by law but do not count toward school accountability scores.

Equity Audits

Equity audits are tools that can be utilized to evaluate the level of equity or inequity that exists within a school building. This tool allows one to audit schooling practices (e.g., school disciplinary practices, teacher placement, student placement); student programming (e.g., gifted and talented programs, special education, extracurricular activities); school demographics (e.g., diversity of staff); and student achievement and attainment (student performance on standardized tests and AP exams; student matriculation and dropout data).

Demography Report

In fall 2019, the Ames Community School District contracted with RSP Associates, a school planning company that works solely with school districts and provides demography analysis for those who are experiencing enrollment changes. For a school district, enrollment changes have financial implications, determine the number of certified teaching positions that are needed, and directly impact building capacity. With accurate demographic information, school districts can use the information to make informed-decisions around facilities planning and enrollment processes.
