Kindergarten and Early Kindergarten Enrollment

Kindergarten and early kindergarten registration at the Ames Community School District is a three phased process. The first phase began January 25th with the Student Information Request form. Here we will gathered information to determine your child’s home attendance center, created accounts for your family in our student information system, and collect proof of residency. The second phase, going on now is Registration Verification. You should have received instructions for how to complete this task. If you did not, contact the District Registrar.

Children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 15, 2021, are eligible for enrollment in kindergarten. We assign kindergarten students to the school in the boundary area that corresponds to their home address. Students who enroll after classes are full in their grade level at their boundary school may be assigned to a different school.

For families wishing to open enroll into the Ames Community School District, please note open enrollment students with paperwork completed by the end of January 2021 will be in a pool for priority placement over students who submit open enrollment paperwork starting in February 2021.

About Early Kindergarten

Early Kindergarten is an option for children who will be 5 years old by September 15 but may not be ready for a full-day kindergarten program. We offer morning and afternoon half-day classes, Monday through Friday, based on a regular kindergarten curriculum.
