Masked Hero: Suzy Nordhus

Masked Hero: Suzy Nordhus

Superpower: Shapeshifting teaching style

For much of the school year, Suzy Nordhus has taught preschool students both in the classroom and remotely. She knows the challenges of engaging up to 20 preschool students at a time through the computer. “I am quite the three-ring circus, sideshow act when I teach. I do nothing short of tap dance on the tables to keep students (or maybe just myself) engaged during remote learning. But I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these little people.” This is why they love her!

New Parent Absence Reporting Online Form

New Parent Absence Form

Regular attendance is an essential part of the educational program for each student in our District. To report your child absent, please utilize the option that works best for you; either call the school or use our new online absence reporting form. You can report the absence any time before 9:15 A.M the day your child is out.

The new absence reporting form includes questions about your child’s illness symptoms, if they have had a COVID-19 test, or if they have been identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19. The most important thing you can do to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in our schools is to keep your child home when they are sick.

As a result of the ongoing pandemic due to the coronavirus, and in order to return to school safely, we have made slight changes to next year’s calendar.

The easiest way to understand these changes is to know that outside of the federal holidays indicated below, every other day in our calendar will be a student contact day, giving teachers and students increased opportunities for instruction. A special thank you to the Ames Teacher’s Union for working collaboratively on these changes.

The project will supply every student in the ACSD with at least one face mask. Ames Middle School and Ames High School students and Ames PTOs are currently working toward a successful outcome.
