Katrina Williams Trailblazer Award

Katrina Williams, an Ames Middle School Alternative Learning Program (ALP) math teacher, has been named a Trailblazing STEM Educator. This award, put forth by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and Challenger Center, celebrates five K-12 educators who go above and beyond to inspire the next generation of explorers and innovators in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Williams was nominated by Iowa State University associate professor of aerospace engineering Dr. Kristin-Yvonne Rozier, who has collaborated with her on STEM outreach.

Ames High Boys Basketball State Champions

The Ames High boys basketball team captured the 2022 Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) 4A State Championship in dominating fashion in a 68-37 win over the Johnston Dragons. The title capped off a historic season, added another title to an already storied program, and sent off the current high school gymnasium in style.

Money Unit at Edwards

Edwards Elementary 2nd graders celebrated the end of their “Money Unit” by being able to apply some of the skills they learned. The four 2nd grade classrooms of Laura Clausen, Kelly Hansen, Terri Boeding-Lincoln and Jody Lickhart, were set up as a stores (toy, candy, book, and restaurant) that students rotated through and were able to spend their plastic money.

AHS Solo Ensemble Contest 2022

AHS Solo Ensemble Contest

The Ames High School Band, Orchestra and Vocal Departments participated in the Ames Solo Ensemble Contest on Saturday, March 5 at Ames High School. A special commendation to each student who prepared music for the contest and who improved their own personal performance skills. The following students/groups received Division I (Superior), Division II (Excellent), and Division III (Good) ratings. No Division IV or V ratings were earned.

2022-2023 and 2023-2024 Academic Calendars Approved

2022-23 Academic Calendar Approved

The 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic school year calendars were approved by the Ames School Board on Monday, March 7, 2022. This year, the board approved two calendars as developed by a 21 member Calendar Committee with the intention of continuing to approve two academic school calendars each year on a rolling basis.
