The Ames Community School District is excited to announce Kristi Mixdorf as the new Director of Teaching and Learning. She is currently the principal of Edwards Elementary School, a position she has held since 2018.
Mixdorf has 20 years of experience in education as both a leader and a teacher. Prior to her position at Edwards Elementary, Mixdorf served as the Director of Teaching and Learning for the North Polk Community School District. Her previous experience included being an Instructional Coach in Ankeny, and a classroom teacher in both the Ankeny and Des Moines School Districts.
While at Edwards Elementary, Mixdorf led professional development opportunities for staff and has been integral in the planning and rollout of district initiatives such as critical consciousness and PBIS. In her new position as Director of Teaching and Learning, Mixdorf will be part of the Superintendent’s Cabinet and will oversee, align, and lead the selection and implementation process for PK, elementary, and secondary school curriculum and multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) delivery system. In addition, she will oversee the implementation and training of instructional practices, instructional framework, and management of the teacher leadership model.
Mixdorf obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa, and her Masters in Education degree from Viterbo University, where she also served as an adjunct professor for five years. Mixdorf is a highly engaged professional who has participated in a variety of professional development opportunities including presentations at local and national conferences.
Based on her wealth of knowledge and experience in curriculum, Mixdorf is an ideal candidate for this position. Her new position will begin on July 1, 2020, pending school board approval. As a District, we are excited to continue to work with Ms. Mixdorf and look forward to her leadership within the Ames Community School District.
