Building Placement for 2019-2020 School Year

Building Placements

As we prepare for the 2019-2020 school year, we want to outline the building placement process for our new students. The District Office determines building placements for each of our five excellent elementary schools with the goal of respecting the boundaries of each building.

Due to growing enrollment and building capacity, some of our elementary schools are becoming full. This is particularly the case for two of our elementary schools (Fellows and Meeker), as well as some grades at the other elementary schools. If a grade is full, your student will attend Sawyer Elementary and transportation will be provided for in-district students.

We have provided scenarios below to help you plan accordingly. If you have additional questions about registration in the Ames Community School District, you can visit our website or contact Registrar Barb Peterson:

Scenarios:

If you live within a school’s boundary and your student attended that building during the ‘18-19 year…

Your student will continue to attend that during the 2019-2020 school year.

If you moved boundaries…

Your student will finish the school year at their current building but will attend the new boundary school for the 2019-2020 school year unless that grade level is full.

If you are new to a boundary school and the grade level is full…

Your student will attend Sawyer Elementary and transportation will be provided.

If you are open enrolling your student for the first time from another district…

Students in grades 1-5 will attend Sawyer Elementary and kindergarten students will be assigned where space is available.
