Executive Directors of Curriculum Announced

Executive Directors

The Ames Community School District is excited to announce Dr. Jeff Hawkins as the new Executive Director of Secondary Education, and Dr. Chad Dumas as Executive Director of Elementary Education. Both are new positions as part of a district office reorganization that will provide a more focused approach to aligning curriculum efforts across the District.

Dr. Hawkins is currently serving as principal at Ankeny High School, a position he has held since 2011. In this position, he has experience with building staff commitment to achieve a district’s mission and vision, curriculum implementation, leveraging professional learning communities to improve instruction and assessment practices, and building the capacity in staff to improve student learning. With over 20 years of experience as an educational leader, Dr. Hawkins is a dynamic communicator who has a passion for education that sets him apart from his peers. He received his Doctorate in Educational Administration from Drake University in 2010.

Dr. Dumas is currently serving as Director of Learning for Hastings Public Schools in Hastings, Nebraska. In this position, he has led strategic planning for school improvements, professional development sessions for principals and teachers, and allocated financial resources to maximize student learning. With a Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska, Dr. Dumas has received national and state awards for his research and initiatives. He has authored several publications and is an active presenter at state and national conferences.

The school board approved both contracts on April 22, 2019, with a start date of July 1, 2019. As a District, we are excited to begin working with both Dr. Hawkins and Dr. Dumas and look forward to the leadership and vast knowledge that they will bring to the Ames Community School District.
