We are grateful to be entering another school year with you and your children. First of all, thank you for your support in all that we do together this year. I believe that together we are stronger and our work can be more meaningful.
I joined the Sawyer family in 2012 after graduating from Truman State University in 2008 with a B.S. in Psychology and then Drake University in 2011 with an M.S. Ed. in School Counseling. Born and raised in Iowa, I’m currently a student at Iowa State University in the Educational Leadership graduate program. As a school counselor with a strengths-based approach and a passion for social justice, I offer a mental health perspective to understand and respond to the challenges affecting today’s diverse student population. I reach all students by teaching classroom counseling lessons and work with students individually or in small groups on a referral basis by students, staff, or you. I am also a co-organizer of Sawyer Speaks, a spoken word poetry program for fourth and fifth grade students. In order to stay connected professionally and continue learning, I am a member of the Iowa School Counselor Association and the American School Counselor Association.
As a part of our Sawyer family, I strive to provide leadership that engages all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to help students achieve school success. In order to accomplish this, I believe in the implementation of a comprehensive, developmental and systematic school counseling program. ASCA’s National Mindset and Behavior Standards in the academic, career, and personal/social domains are the foundation for this work.
Our district is committed to culturally relevant teaching through ongoing professional development over the next three years. This requires that we teach with critical awareness and reach every student in our school. I aim to do just that and I encourage each of you to join me on the way. There will be several opportunities for families to be involved this year at Sawyer, and it is a goal of mine to meet and get to know as many of you as I can! I’ve been so lucky to know our families over the years but I love getting to meet new families and students; I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity.
I welcome conversations at any time and can be reached at Sawyer via phone or email (515-239-3790 or email@example.com). Referrals for school counseling services can be completed using the confidential Google Form found at the bottom of this page titled Family/Staff Counselor Referral form. Once you have completed and submitted the form, I will be in touch with you.
Thank you for your partnership. Together, we are better!
