The 2015 girls track season has a very knowledgeable staff, which will provide excellent opportunities for the girls participating in track this spring.  The success of the Ames High track program is due in part to the dedication and commitment to the program by a very knowledgeable coaching staff. Coaches of this year’s staff include:, Lauren Weber, throwing events coach; Ron McEachran, volunteer throwing events coach; Aileen Sullivan, jump coach; Julie Terry, hurdles coach; Stacey Lyons, sprint coach; Dick Lee, middle-distance and distance coach; and Kirk Schmaltz, head track coach and sprint coach.

The Ames girls track team will build from last season’s championship part of the season and continue that momentum into the beginning of this season. Returning letterwinners from last season along with new freshmen this spring will provide a strong team with potential for another great season. This year’s upperclassmen will provide the leadership for the squad necessary to compete in all 19 events at each meet. Many underclassmen from last year gained valuable meet experience which will prove beneficial this season. This year’s squad will work together to improve the team’s performance from week to week. Individual runners, jumpers and throwers will also set goals to improve throughout the season as well. The strongest competition will come from our own conference which includes West Des Moines Dowling, West Des Moines Valley, Waukee, Johnston, and defending state champion Urbandale. All teams were in the top ten at the state meet last year. This year’s team will strive to be competitive and work towards qualifying as many individuals and relays as possible for the state meet this May in Des Moines. Our challenge is to improve from our 15th place finish last year and to finish in the top 10 this season.
