2017 Outlook

The 2017 Ames High Little Cyclones return 14 starters and 17 letterwinners from a team that finished the 2016 season 5-4 overall and 3-2 in district play. Last year highlights include an overtime win at #4 Iowa City High, along with victories over Marshalltown, SC West, CB Lincoln, and DM Lincoln.

3rd-year starting QB and All State Candidate Joe Evans will lead this year’s offense behind returning lineman Christopher Fowles and Peter Woodruff. The receiving core will be led by returning starters Tyler Doyle, Colton Iiams, and Will Krapfl. Track standout Bernard Bell Jr. looks to make an impact as well. Martrell Davis is the leading candidate to carry the ball.

The defense will be led by All Conference performer  Brandon Cable, along with returning starters Cal Wild, Max Goeders, Josiah Engelken, Gabe Ante, and Jared Braun. Key special teams roles will need to be filled with the loss of All-State P/PK Adam Rademacher. Josiah Engelken will likely take over the place kicking duties while the punting job is yet to be determined.

The Little Cyclones open up the season at Marshalltown on August 25th. The home opener will be a week later versus Cedar Falls on September 1st.
