Ames High School Boys Track
A tradition of excellence best describes the boys’ track and field program at Ames High. Since 1941 the Little Cyclones have recorded 20 state outdoor meet championships, seven more than any other Iowa school. During those 75 seasons the Little Cyclones have also finished as runners-up nine times in state meet competition and won 49 conference titles. The Ames boys also lead Iowa in individual and relay state championships with 119. One state meet relay title came in 2015 as the 4X800 team ran a state all-time record setting 7:41.43 which ranked fourth in the nation and the 1600m medley foursome broke the Ames school record with a time of 3:27.38 while finishing second. Their performance was the sixth fastest prep time in the country in 2015.
