Ames High School Boys Swimming

The Ames High Boys’ Swimming team earned an 6th Place finish at the 2017 State Championship. The boys swimming team had another great year in the pool. The team compiled a 9-1 Varsity dual meet record while the JV team compiled a 9-1 overall record. The team had an amazing performance at their 2017 District Swim Meet in Johnston. The team won 5 of 11 events at the District Meet scoring 391 points.

District Champions were:

Dalton Lillibridge – 200 Individual Medley, 100 Breaststroke 

Misho Mahrous – 100 Butterfly 

Ethan Johnson – 100 Backstroke

Ethan Johnson, Dalton Lillibridge, Misho Mahrous, Peter Matthews – 200 Medley Relay

The 200 Medley Relay team earned 3rd place at state earning First-Team All-State Honors.

Dalton Lillibridge placed 3rd in the 200 Individual Medley earning First-Team All-State Honors and set a new school record.  Dalton also won the 100 Breaststroke in school record fashion.  His state title makes him the first Ames male swimmer to win the 100 Breaststroke in the history of our swimming program.

Ethan Johnson placed 6th in the 100 Backstroke earning Second Team All-State honors.

Congratulations to Logan Peters and Jeb Shaw for being named “Academic All-Americans” by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association.

Coach Flannery is a graduate of Iowa State University with a BA in Spanish
and will receive his Masters degree in Coaching in Physical Education from Ball State University in May of 2008. He was a member of the ISU Men’s Swim team and captain for the 1998 season. He was a member of the Big 8 Championship team in 1995 and the undefeated team in 1998. Coach Flannery was a high school All-American in the 200 Freestyle and swam for Johnston High School in Des Moines.
