Each year the orchestra presents three awards:

  • Kiwanis

    Introduced in Ames in 1978, the Kiwanis award is bestowed upon a member of the high school orchestra in recognition of singular merit and outstanding contributions to the success of the school orchestra, for displaying an unusual degree of loyalty and cooperation, and for exemplifying that high standard of conduct that is the aim of the school instrumental program.
  • National School Orchestra Association

    Introduced nationally in 1968 and first awarded in Ames in 1992, the NSOA award is the highest honor bestowed upon a member of the high school orchestra in recognition of singular merit and outstanding contributions to the success of the school orchestra, for displaying an unusual degree of loyalty and cooperation, and for exemplifying that high standard of conduct that is the aim of the school instrumental program.
  • Leonard Bernstein Musicianship Award

    Introduced in 2016, the Leonard Bernstein Musicianship Award is awarded to honor students whose musical contributions, dedication, and creativity set them apart as deserving of the highest recognition for their achievements.
