Attention all string players in orchestra! Go to lunch after 4th period. When the
bell rings, go to the orchestra room, get your instrument and come down to the
gym for the POPS rehearsal.

Seniors, if you had Mr. Weber in middle school pick up your Weber letters in the
main office.

Students, Course sign-up opens up tomorrow morning for the 2019-2020 school
year. There are detailed instructions for online course sign-up on the AHS

Ames High Science Olympiad is holding a fundraiser at Culvers on Wednesday,
May 15th. We are raising money for our trip to the 2019 Science Olympiad
National Tournament at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. You can come
anytime throughout the day, and you don't need to mention Ames High Science
Olympiad! We hope to see you there!

Sign up for Mr. O’s Thursday, May 16th Plus period and come to African Club.
Experience African culture, music, dancing and food from different countries.
Seniors please clean out your locker before your last day of school, anything left
behind will be donated.

Mr. Reichert’s Advanced Environmental Science class would like to invite you to
“Our Impact” this Thursday, May 16th from 6:30pm-8pm in the Multi-purpose
room. Our Impact is an interactive, exciting, and fun way to help educate the
community on how the things they do impact our environment. Everyone is

SPRING POPS CONCERT

Ames High School Pops concert featuring the combined choirs, orchestras and bands is on Monday, May 13 at 7:30 PM in the AHS Gymnasium. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and $10 for a family.

YEARBOOK

Attention parents of seniors! The deadline for Senior Baby Ad’s is fast approaching! One of the best ways to honor and acknowledge your graduating senior is to add a personalized message, or Baby Ad, at the end of the yearbook. We will be accepting these through May 13th this year. CELL PHONES AND AP TESTING

Students taking AP tests are prohibited from having cell phones while testing. According to AP policy, AP exam grades will be cancelled for any student who uses a cell phone during an exam or on break. Students need to bring pencils and a black or blue pen. Student should check test locations posted outside of Student Services.

4-H CONFERENCE

The 4-H Youth Conference will be June 25-27 on ISU campus.  More information is at  https://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/iowa4hyouthconference.  4H grants available to cover application fees. See Mrs. Tibben MC15 for more information and application forms.  

RESEARCH INTERNSHIP

Students interested in an unpaid research internship at Iowa State should pick up an application form in the Media Center inside the ELP Alcove from Mrs. Monroe or Mr. Gorman. We expect a very limited amount of internships to be available.

A quick reminder to the class or 2019, you have been an amazing group of students to work with during your four years at AHS.  There has been many great accomplishments and you should be very proud of yourself and your friends.  Please finish this year demonstrating the same character and respect for our school and our community by not damaging or vandalizing the building with any senior pranks.  You do not want to jeopardize your ability to celebrate with your class by doing something that will tarnish the outstanding reputation you all have set for the class of 2019.

AHS DECA INTERNATIONAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE

Congratulations to the 44 AHS DECA competitors and leadership academy attendees at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando, Florida. Over 21,000 students from all 50 states and 10 countries attend to compete for a place on the grand awards stage. Freshman Shrey Patel qualified to compete in the final round at ICDC, finishing in the top 20 of his event.

 

DECA is an organization that prepares emerging leaders to be college and career ready. While the focus of competitive events is on business principles such as marketing, finance, hospitality, management and entrepreneurship, students who participate in the local DECA chapter also find themselves involved in service projects that help them further their commitment to community, as well as leadership activities that help them develop and enhance employability skills.

 

MATH TUTORING

After school Math support is available in room 212 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:30-5:30 PM.

 

THESPIAN BANQUET

The Thespian banquet is next Thursday (5/9) in the AHS cafeteria, 6:30-8:00 pm.  Students involved in theater and their parents are invited.  The banquet is being catered by Jethro’s BBQ and the cost is $5.00 per person. There is a sign-up document on the AHS Tech/Drama Google Classroom site. Students can also sign-up on the sheet in Mr. Schmidt’s room.

Students- the amount of skateboard use in our halls and around the building is creating a safety issue for students and staff.  Please do not use your skateboards in the building at any time or in the front of the building until 3:15PM.  Students who are observed violating this request will be asked to keep their skateboards in Mr. Carico’s office during the school day.

Girl’s golf is holding a fundraiser at Blaze pizza today from 4:00-8:00pm. Ask a member of the team for a flier, as these fliers will be needed when being given proceeds to the team. Please come out and support your girls! 

Join Spectrum on Thursday May 2nd in the Audio Visual room for an Ally Day. We will be having a discussion and we invite all who are willing to come. Sign up for Plus period under Burke.”
