FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL THURSDAY, AUGUST 23, 2018
Freshmen and new student will begin at 7:50 AM in homeroom.
• All returning 10th, 11th, and 12th graders will report to school at 12:00 PM to homeroom.
Lunch will be available at 11:30 AM.
• 10-12 graders that ride the bus, either ride the bus at the normal morning time or find a ride to
school at noon. Those students that ride the bus at normal AM time will report to the
cafeteria at 7:50.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT, Monday, August 27
Back to School Night starts with 1st period at 6:15 PM and will be followed by eight 8-minute
periods. Since Back to School Night usually attracts nearly 1,000 adults, an early arrival will be
helpful.

ALP AND ELP MEETINGS at 5:45 PM
If you are the parent of a child in ALP or ELP, there will be some meetings prior to the Back to
School Night activities.
ALP parents will meet in Rm 18
ELP parents will meet in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Ames CSD Ranked Best District in the State for 6th Consecutive Year by Niche

Niche recently released their 2019 K-12 Rankings of the best schools in the country. For the sixth consecutive year, the Ames Community School District has been ranked as the #1 district in the State of Iowa, with Ames High School also receiving the #1 ranking for the fourth year in a row.

The Ames CSD earned this ranking through key factors such as strength of academics, quality of teachers, school resources, as well as student and parent reviews. The statistical data used in this ranking was obtained from the U.S. Department of Education and then analyzed by Niche’s team of data scientists to create the 2019 rankings.

The Niche 2019 K-12 Rankings are based on rigorous analysis of academics and student life data along with test scores, college data, and ratings collected from millions of Niche users. Their wide-ranging data allows them to provide a comprehensive suite of rankings across all school types.

Elementary School Arrival/Dismissal Times

Elementary School Schedule

Starting this school year, we are adjusting arrival and dismissal services at all of our elementary schools. Safety and security are of utmost importance to us, and to ensure safety, we are making adjustments to our arrival times as follows:

  • 8:05-8:25 breakfast
  • 8:10 doors unlock and classrooms open
  • 8:25 instruction begins

ACPC, who operates the before and after school program in our building, has communicated to us that they are able to expand enrollment. As a District, we are unable to provide supervision prior to 8:05 and after 3:30. Therefore, students arriving before or after those times will be enrolled with ACPC and will be billed the daily rate. We understand that this may be a change from last year, and we are committed to working with you to explore child care options. If you have specific questions or concerns about this policy, please reach out to your building office personnel.

While students finish enjoying summer break with family and friends, here at Ames High we are busy getting ready for the 2018-19 school year. Here is a look at what is coming up on the AHS calendar:

  • Monday August 6 – Fall Sports Practice begins
  • Monday August 13 – School Pictures 8 am – 4 pm
  • Thursday, August 23 – First Day of School
  • Monday, August 27 – Back to School Night

 

SCHOOL PICTURES

Lifetouch will be taking Ames High students school picture in the Spirit Room on Monday, August 13 from 8AM-4PM. Enter the building through the Activities Entrance. Pictures are taken on a walk in basis, no appointment is necessary. Picture packets forms may be picked up in the main office at AHS and also in the Athletic Office or parents can go online at www.mylifetouch.com enter code BN108007Q0 to order and pay for a picture package.. Extra picture packets can be picked up on picture day. All non-seniors students MUST have their picture taken, as these pictures are used in the Yearbook and for student ID’s. If for some reason your child is not able to attend, another date, yet to be decided, will be held after the start of the school year. We can’t stress enough the importance of these pictures being taken.

 

REGISTRATION PACKETS

Reminder to fill out your students registration packet if you haven’t already done so. It is very important to have work processed 2-3 weeks before school starts to make the transition run smoothly for our 1400+ students. Parking permit hang tags need to be assigned, activity stickers and open campus/open lunch stickers needs to be placed on ID’s, the nurse needs all updated medical history forms reviewed and filed. If you still have forms, please complete them now and mail them in or drop them off in the main office at AHS.

If your son/daughter is involved in a fall sport, practice begins on August 6th and all athletic forms and a current physical need to be on file before that August 6th deadline. Thank you for your understanding.
