Thursday – April 26, 2018

Come to this spring’s production of Mutually Assured Destruction by Don Zolidis – ten vignettes that reveal the hilarious and touching sides to sibling rivalry.   Shows are April 27 and 28 beginning at 7:00 PM. Admission is $5.00 for high school and older and $4.00 for 8th grade and younger.

Second semester PE with CPR students will be doing CPR training this coming Monday April 30 in the gym.  If you have Duea or Fecht for PE with CPR you will be in group 1 which will meet in the gym 2nd, 3rd, and 4th periods.  If you have Rial for PE with CPR you will be in group 2 which meets in the gym during 6th and 7th periods. This is mandatory for students in these classes and is a requirement for high school graduation.  If you have questions see your PE teacher.

Did you know 1 in 10 people worldwide live without clean water?  From April 23-27, SHEPH is hosting a coin drive to fund a well in rural Uganda. We would appreciate donations so we can reach our goal of $2100. You can turn them into your English Teacher this week.

SHEPH WELL PROJECT – COIN DRIVE

Hello parents! Did you know 1 in 10 people worldwide or live without clean water? This is SHEPH (students helping end poverty and hunger) and from April 23-27, we are hosting a coin drive to fund our end-of-the-year project: funding a well in rural Uganda. We would appreciate if you sent donations with your kid to donate in their English class that week so we can reach our goal of $2100. Thank you! IOWA ASSESSMENT SCORES

Students in grades 9,10, and 11 received their Iowa Assessment results in homeroom this past week.   

HONORS RECEPTION

Full time seniors with a 3.80 or higher GPA will be recognized at the Honors Reception this Wednesday, April 25 at 6:30 in the AHS cafeteria.

SENIOR ART SHOW

The AHS senior art show will be up through April 30th in the multi-purpose room at Ames High School. The reception is Sunday, April 22nd from 12:30-2:00 PM with awards at 1:00 PM.

SPRING CHORAL CONCERT

The Ames High School Vocal Music Department will present the Spring Choral Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 30, in the Ames High Auditorium. The Freshmen/Concert Choir, Treble Choir, Treble Chorale, Bass Choir and Concert Chorale will perform under the direction Peggy Dieter and Sonia Johnson.  Tickets are available at the door: $3 for students; $5 for Adults with $10 maximum per family.

CELL PHONES AND AP TESTING

Students taking AP tests are prohibited from having cell phones while testing. According to AP policy, AP exam grades will be cancelled for any student who uses a cell phone during an exam or on break. Students should check test locations posted outside of Student Services. Students also need to bring pencils and a black or blue pen.

All students taking AP tests who did not make it to the pre-administration meeting yesterday morning will now need to come to student services as soon as possible to get the information that they missed.

Today is the last day to turn in Baccalaureate Guest Speaker nomination forms.  Turn completed forms into the front office.

NHS Members – you have two important announcements for today.

#1.  You have a meeting today in the auditorium during 2nd lunch.  Attendance is mandatory, but only for current members.

#2.  The induction ceremony will be this Sunday, April 22, at 2:30 in the auditorium.   Please plan to arrive at 2:15. Attendance is mandatory for this one too.

Attention Students who who went to the Gatsby Party.  If you borrowed anything from Jay’s Closet, please return whatever you borrowed by Friday.  Jay will take care of washing returned items for you, just let his butler know if they need to be cleaned.   Hope you had a great time at the party, but don’t leave Jay with an empty closet.

Tuesday, APRIL 17, 2018

All students taking AP tests this spring will need to attend a pre-administration meeting at 8:00 am on Wednesday, April 18 in the AHS cafeteria.  Anyone who absolutely cannot attend needs to contact Mr. Burke in Student Services.

We are still accepting nominations for the Baccalaureate Guest Speakers this week.   You have until Thursday to nominate someone who has helped you in your spiritual journey, or inspired you to grow in your faith.   The forms are due this Thursday.

Ames was well represented at the Conference Art Show in Fort Dodge last Week.   Congrats to all who participated, and especially to these award winners: Caylee Fuqua won a Blue Merit in Colored Pencil, Anyang Yu won a Blue Merit in Graphite Pencil Drawing, Tiffany Rong won a Blue Merit in Crafts, Fiber Art, and Handmade Paper.

Mali Bilstad won a Blue Merit in Computer Generated Art, Sierra Laaser Webb won a Blue Merit in Black and White Photography, T’Ana Smith won a Blue Merit in Unaltered Photography, Libbie Peel won an Honorable Mention in altered Photography, Jarret Hynes won an Honorable Mention in Black and White Photography, Calvin Evans won an Honorable Mention in Computer Generated Art, Alea Hartwigsen won an Honorable Mention in Ink Drawing,
