DANCE MARATHON

This past Saturday, the 3rd Annual Ames High School Dance Marathon took place. The event was the culmination of a year-long fundraising and awareness campaign to support the miracle children treated at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. At the beginning of the year, Dance Marathon co-Presidents, Sabrinna Hegelheimer and Charlotte Lenkaitis, set a goal to raise $15,000. Throughout the year, club members led countless fundraisers, such as coin drives and halftime competitions to help meet their goal.

At the event, Ames High had the pleasure of hosting several miracle families whose lives have been impacted by the funds raised through Dance Marathon. These families were given the opportunity to speak about their personal experiences with Dance Marathon. Students, teachers and miracle families alike were invited to dance, eat sweets and participate in activities and games, such as a photo booth, ping pong and four square.

At the end of the event, students revealed that they had met and exceeded their goal, raising a total of $15,576.28. This total continues to rise as more donations are collected.

Thanks to all of the Ames High Staff for all of their support along the way and to all of the amazing club members whose hard work and determination made Ames High School Dance Marathon so successful!

AHS STATE DECA

While the focus of competitive events is on business principles such as marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship, students who participate in the local DECA chapter also find themselves involved in service projects that help them further their commitment to community, as well as leadership activities that help them develop and enhance employability skills.

WINTER MUSICAL: GUYS AND DOLLS
It is the streets of Broadway when fedoras, showgirls, and a few colorful shady characters ruled the streets. This is the setting for Ames High School’s production of Guys and Dolls, a musical fable of Broadway based on characters by Damon Runyon. Nathan Detroit is trying to find a location for his “floating crap game”, while attempting to keep the game a secret from his lovelorn, beleaguered fiancée, Adelaide. Meanwhile, Sarah Brown’s earnest efforts to keep her mission open are distracted by a handsome, smooth-talking gambler, Sky Masterson. Curtain is 7:30 PM February 10 and 11, and 2:00 PM Sunday, February 12. Admission is $10.00 9th grade and older, $8.00 8th grade and below.
