All students taking AP tests who did not make it to the pre-administration meeting yesterday morning will now need to come to student services as soon as possible to get the information that they missed.

Today is the last day to turn in Baccalaureate Guest Speaker nomination forms.  Turn completed forms into the front office.

NHS Members – you have two important announcements for today.

#1.  You have a meeting today in the auditorium during 2nd lunch.  Attendance is mandatory, but only for current members.

#2.  The induction ceremony will be this Sunday, April 22, at 2:30 in the auditorium.   Please plan to arrive at 2:15. Attendance is mandatory for this one too.

Application News

We still have applications for people interested in being a student council co – president next year.  You can pick one up from Mrs. Packer in the main office. They are due tomorrow. See Ms. DiBlasi for questions.

There are also Applications available for ISU internships next fall.   You can get those at the ELP alcove in the Media Center. Please see Mrs. Skaar for more information. Those are due April 30.

Wednesday – April 18, 2018

Attention Students who who went to the Gatsby Party.  If you borrowed anything from Jay’s Closet, please return whatever you borrowed by Friday.  Jay will take care of washing returned items for you, just let his butler know if they need to be cleaned.   Hope you had a great time at the party, but don’t leave Jay with an empty closet.

Applications are now available for ISU internships for the fall semester.  Come to the ELP alcove to pick up an application. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Skaar. Applications are due April 30.

If you are interested in running for student council co-president for next year,  you should pick up an application in the main office. You must have at least three years combined experience.  Applications are due Friday, April 20. See Ms. DiBlasi for questions.

Email Emma Cai or Ms. Cakrasenjaya if you cannot make it. This is only for currently inducted NHS members. Newly accepted members need not attend this meeting.

All students taking AP tests this spring will need to attend a pre-administration meeting at 8:00 am on Wednesday, April 18 in the AHS cafeteria.  Anyone who absolutely cannot attend needs to contact Mr. Burke in Student Services.

We are still accepting nominations for the Baccalaureate Guest Speakers this week.   You have until Thursday to nominate someone who has helped you in your spiritual journey, or inspired you to grow in your faith.   The forms are due this Thursday.

Ames was well represented at the Conference Art Show in Fort Dodge last Week.   Congrats to all who participated, and especially to these award winners: Caylee Fuqua won a Blue Merit in Colored Pencil, Anyang Yu won a Blue Merit in Graphite Pencil Drawing, Tiffany Rong won a Blue Merit in Crafts, Fiber Art, and Handmade Paper.

Mali Bilstad won a Blue Merit in Computer Generated Art, Sierra Laaser Webb won a Blue Merit in Black and White Photography, T’Ana Smith won a Blue Merit in Unaltered Photography, Libbie Peel won an Honorable Mention in altered Photography, Jarret Hynes won an Honorable Mention in Black and White Photography, Calvin Evans won an Honorable Mention in Computer Generated Art, Alea Hartwigsen won an Honorable Mention in Ink Drawing,

Breanna Schumer won an Honorable Mention in Ceramics,

Abby Robinder won an Honorable Mention in Ceramics,

Matab Jaily won an Honorable Mention in 9th grade 2d Art.

A very special Honor was bestowed on Jamie Zhang as well.

Jamie Zhang won Best of Show and the Student Choice Award for her oil pastel.

Prom will be held this Saturday evening.  Doors open at 9PM and close at 10. Coronation starts at 9:30.  Tickets are $20. No tickets will be sold at the door. You must show school ID to enter the dance.  

Post Prom is here at the school, and admittance is free.   Enter the building through the Athletics Doors.

Tuesday – April 10, 2018

Ames High Cooks up a little Cyclone Victory!  Our Ames High culinary teams brought home FIRST and fourth place among eight teams, from four area schools.

The top chefs were: Christiana Drew, Emily Frescoln and Aaron Wandling, who also won a cast iron skillet in marketing/blog challenge round.

The fourth place team consisted of: Mackenzie Marion, Samantha Parsons and Julia Daub.

Both teams made Ames High proud of their culinary skills and creativity.

Please congratulate these students— who literally took a risk and jumped out into the fire, and brought home– the frying pan as a trophy!

Permission slips for prom guest and the Post Prom Hypnotist Act can all be obtained from Bridget in the Associate Principals office.   Wednesday is the due date.  

Several local scholarships have been updated on Family Connection.  If you have questions, please see Abby Evans in Student Services.

Seniors who plan to go to DMACC next year.  This is a reminder that staff from DMACC will be here today in the multi-purpose room during Plus Pd to help you complete the online registration.

Post Prom

Juniors and Seniors who would like to be in the hypnotist show at the end of Post Prom.  You need to pick up a permission form in the associate principal’s office and get a parent signature for permission.  Those turning these in first will get first chance at being selected.
