There will be a meeting for all those interested in going out for wrestling or being a wrestling manager in the Athletics video conference room at 3:15 pm on Monday November 6th.  There is a sign-up sheet in the activities office, get signed up ahead of time.  If you have questions please see Coach Fecht.

Streetsmarts will be offering a Driver Ed session that will begin Nov. 6 thru December 13th.   The cost is $325.00.   Application forms may be picked up and returned in the Associate Principal Office.  

If anyone is interested in being a Varsity Girls Basketball manager this winter, please stop in and see Mr. Sullivan in room 121.

Hey Senior Mentors! Tomorrow, October 25 is the next senior mentor homeroom day. Go visit your ninth graders!

DAILY NOTES –

Attention students planning to take the ACT or SAT this fall:   Do you remember that check your parents gave you?   The one for the Prep classes?    Please try to get them in this week, and don’t wait until the last minute.    Checks should be made out to Ames High School.  The first prep session starts Nov. 6th.

The National Honor Society will have their October meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 24th during 2nd lunch in the Multi-purpose room.   Please let Mrs. C or one of the NHS leaders know if you cannot make it.

Are you interested in an internship at Iowa State University?  Applications are now available for ISU internships for the spring semester.  Come to the ELP alcove to pick up an application. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Skaar for more information. Applications are due November 2.

 Any student interested in taking AP Microeconomics or AP Macroeconomics for the spring semester should stop in the ELP alcove to pick up an application. You will need to have one free period (not necessarily the same period each day) open in your spring schedule to accommodate one of these classes. Applications will be due October 26.

If you cannot go to tonight’s game,  you can still catch the action because the game will be broadcast on Iowa Catholic Radio and webcast on CISN.TV.   Tune in and cheer on the Little Cyclones.

Heads Up everybody.   

Friday nights game against Dowling will be broadcast on Iowa Catholic Radio and webcast on CISN.TV.  If you can’t make it to the game, you can tune in and still support the little cyclones.

So…..If you are a ninth grader, and you did not pick up your 8th grade yearbook yesterday at lunch, there is only one way to get them now.   You must go see Mrs. McCarley in the Associate Principal’s office.  That is who has them now.

FALL CHORAL CONCERT

The AHS Choirs will present a Fall Choral Concert Tonight in the auditorium.  The Freshmen Chorus, Concert Choir, and Concert Chorale will each perform 3 pieces and will combine to conclude the concert as a massed choir .  The Choirs are under the direction of Peggy Dieter and Sonia Johnson.  Admission is $5 for Adults and $3 for Students with a family maximum of $10.  Hope to see you there.

ACT/ SAT PREP CLASS

Attention students planning to take the ACT or SAT this fall:  Mr. Webb and Mrs. Engelkes are offering an ACT/SAT Prep Class starting November 6th.  The class will meet four Mondays for two hours each day (Monday, November 6, November, 13, November 20, and November 27). There will be a section that meets from 3:15 PM-5:15 PM and another that meets from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.  The cost is  $35 (checks preferred), which is waived for students qualifying for the Federal Lunch Program.

Class size is limited to 25 students.  Enrollment is on a first-come with registration fee, first served basis. Registration starts on Monday, October 16. (Please – no early birds.   We will not have the available materials to sign you up with until Monday, Oct. 16th.)  Registration forms are available in Student Services.  Make your check out to Ames High School.

OPUS HONOR CHOIR FESTIVAL

Five 9th grade students were selected to participate in the 2017 Opus Honor Choir Festival on November 16 at C. Y. Stephens Auditorium.  The following students were selected from nearly 3,000 auditions for 720 positions in 4 choirs.  Congratulations to Jackson Bryant, Nicholas Tehan, Leah Tietjens, Lincoln VerSteegt, and Adam Wolf.  

ISU INTERNSHIPS FOR SPRING SEMESTER

If your student is interested in an internship at Iowa State University,  applications are now available for ISU internships for the spring semester.  Have your student stop by the ELP alcove to pick up an application. SOPHOMORE CLASS RING / JEWELRY PRESENTATION

A representative from Jostens handed out information to interested sophomores regarding class ring/jewelry ordering.  A Jostens representative will return at AHS on Tuesday, Oct. 17 during both lunches to take orders.  If your sophomore didn’t pick up a ring/jewelry information packet, there are more available in the main office.

Thursday, October 12

If you were planning to take a class for a contract grade with a pass/fail option, you better stop procrastinating because Thursday Oct. 12th is the last day to sign up.   Talk to your counselor now!

There will be a meeting for anyone interested in playing Girls Basketball this year.  The signup meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 12 during Plus Period. Sign up with Mr. Sullivan in room 121.  If you cannot attend due to an academic conflict, please contact coach Sullivan.

The college reps for Thursday are from Drake University at 1 pm, and Mercy College of Health and Science, also at 1pm.   Friday, someone will be here from Marshalltown Community College at 1pm
