Are you interested in an internship at Iowa State University?  Applications are now available for ISU internships for the fall semester.  Come to the ELP alcove to pick up an application. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Skaar for more information. Applications are due April 30.

If you are interested in running for student council co-presidents for the 2018-19 school year,  please pick up an application from Mrs. Packer in the main office. You must have at least three years combined experience.  Applications are due Friday, April 20. See Ms. DiBlasi for questions.

Attention juniors! If you would you like to be a senior mentor for the 2018-19 school year, then you have to sign up today.

Do you think it would be fun to have an international student live with your family, either during first semester of the 2018-2019 school year, or for two weeks during October?  If so, please contact Sam Reichart, German Teacher, at AHS for more information. Opportunities are still available!”

Prom will be held this Saturday evening.  Doors open at 9PM and close at 10. Coronation starts at 9:30.  Tickets are $20. No tickets will be sold at the door. You must show school ID to enter the dance.  

Post Prom is here at the school, and admittance is free.   Enter the building through the Athletics Doors.

Tuesday – April 10, 2018

Ames High Cooks up a little Cyclone Victory!  Our Ames High culinary teams brought home FIRST and fourth place among eight teams, from four area schools.

The top chefs were: Christiana Drew, Emily Frescoln and Aaron Wandling, who also won a cast iron skillet in marketing/blog challenge round.

The fourth place team consisted of: Mackenzie Marion, Samantha Parsons and Julia Daub.

Both teams made Ames High proud of their culinary skills and creativity.

Please congratulate these students— who literally took a risk and jumped out into the fire, and brought home– the frying pan as a trophy!

Permission slips for prom guest and the Post Prom Hypnotist Act can all be obtained from Bridget in the Associate Principals office.   Wednesday is the due date.

If you want to be in the hypnotist show at Post Prom, you need to get a permission slip already.  

You also need a permission slip if your date goes to another school.

Seniors who plan to go to DMACC next year.  This is a reminder that staff from DMACC will be here today in the multi-purpose room during Plus Pd to help you complete the online registration.

Due to snow days earlier in the year June’s Driver Ed class will now start June 6 thru  June 19. Student’s who have already signed up to attend this class who may have a conflict please see Bridget in the Assoc: Principal’s office.

Please sign up for Dunkin’s Plus Period this Fri., April 6 if you are interested in participating in the Ames-Spain Exchange.  Applications to travel are due this Fri. Give them to any Spanish teacher. If you cannot attend, please see Mrs. Dunkin for information.

Short Reminders:

Mr. Zmolek’s plus period this Friday will be awesome!  He’s having a guest speaker who used to go to this school and he will talk about Medical Careers.  You should sign up.

Mrs Brenneman’s plus period on Friday is competing with Mr. Z’s. for awesomeness.    It will be for people who like to enjoy their lunch with others. There will be snacks too.

Juniors and Seniors who would like to be in the hypnotist show at the end of Post Prom.  You need to pick up a permission form in the associate principal’s office and get a parent signature for permission.  Those turning these in first will get first chance at being selected.

 For those interested in taking Yoga during a PLUS period, please sign up in flexisched under DiBlasi’s name for next Friday, April 13. Wear comfy clothing.

 Reminders:

#1. Applications to audition as a student performer for baccalaureate are in the main office.  

#2  Mr. Zmolek is having special speaker in his plus period this Friday.  He is going to talk about Emergency Medicine.

#3   Mrs Brenneman is having a special plus period on Friday for people who like people and lunch.   Snacks will be provided.

#4 Prom is April 14th.   If you are thinking of asking someone you should do it soon.   The Theme is “A Night in Rome” If you have a date from another school, you need to fill out permission paperwork.   Get that from Bridget in the Associate Principals office.

#5 Post Prom is free admission, and if you hadn’t already figured this out, it is after Dance.   Infact, you don’t even have to go to the dance. You can just go to post prom.

Do you like people? Do you like eating lunch? If you are interested in joining a club that is all about enjoying lunch, sign up for Mrs. Brenneman’s plus period on Friday, April 6th. There will be snacks. You can also contact Mrs. Brenneman or Deeksha Sarda for more information. 

Are you interested in learning more about careers as a medical doctor, medic, EMT, or paramedic? If so, there will be a guest speaker during Plus period on Friday, April 6th. Sign up under Mr. Zmolek’s Flexi Schedule and come hear from current medical student and AHS alum Daniel Kinker, who is about to begin his medical residency in emergency medicine at the Cleveland Clinic.

The AHS Junior Prom Committee is excited to announce this year’s prom theme as “A Night in Rome.” Prom will be held at the Scheman Building, 1805 CenterDrive, on Saturday, April 14th, from 9:00-11:00 PM (doors will close at 10:00 PM). Coronation will begin promptly at 9:30 PM. Please note the start time is 9:00 PM. Tickets are $20 and will be sold April 9-13th before school, during lunch, and after school. No tickets will be sold at the door. All students and guests must have their school IDs to enter the dance. Out of school dance forms are available in the Associate Principal’s office and must be turned in to Bridget McCarley no later than Wednesday, April 11th (forms must be turned in before student may purchase tickets).

POST PROM

All juniors and seniors are invited to attend the 2018 Post Prom Party whether attending prom or not on Sunday, April 15, from midnight-4:30 AM in the AHS gym. NO cost to attend, NO tickets needed.   More details will be included in future announcements.  

Tomorrow a representative from The University of Kansas will be here to talk to students interested in possibly attending in the future.
