DAILY NOTES

Senior mentors- Please visit your ninth-grade homeroom today!

Dance Marathon is this Friday from 8-11pm! Purchase your t-shirts and tickets in the main lobby this week. There will also be a pancake breakfast on Wednesday morning starting at 8am, only $3 for unlimited pancakes and drinks in the cafeteria. 

All ESL students who have not started or completed the ELPA21 test need to report to room 16 for 6th, Plus, and 7th periods to work on the test with Mr. K.

DANCE MARATHON RE-SCHEDULED

Dance Marathon will now be held on Friday, March 1 from 8:00-11:00 PM. Last year we raised over $18,000 for the kids! This year we are hoping to do the same! All proceeds go to the Stead Family Children’s Hospital here in Iowa, which supports children who are battling life threatening illnesses. Please consider donating, and click here to donate to our online giving page. We do all of this #ForTheKids! We’d love your support!

AHS WINTER BAND CONCERT

The Ames High Bands will be presenting their Winter Band Concerts on Thursday, February 28 in the Ames High School Auditorium. The 6:30 PM concert will feature the Freshman Band directed by Andrew Buttermore and the Wind Symphony directed by Chris Ewan. The 8:00 PM concert will feature the Concert Band directed by Chris Ewan and the Symphonic Band directed by Andrew Buttermore. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and $10 for a family.

PRE-SEASON TENNIS MEETINGS

Anyone interested in playing tennis this spring should attend the pre-season tennis meeting next week. The boys will be on Wednesday, February 27th after school in the video room and the girls will be on Thursday, February 28th after school in the video room. Please let Coach Dustin Rhoads know if you can’t attend.

AMES HIGH POST PROM

Plans are underway for the 2019 Ames High School post prom party! The volunteer committee is working to ensure the students have a fun, safe, and memorable evening following prom.   This event is provided at no cost to the students. We need your help to make this happen!

Post Prom will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2019 from 12:00 am to 4:30 am at Ames High School.  It is open to all juniors / seniors, and their dates, whether or not they attend the Prom itself. Games, entertainment, food, and prizes will provide a terrific night at NO COST to the students.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY APPLICATION DEADLINE

Any current sophomore or junior with a GPA of 3.4+ are eligible to apply for National Honor Society for the 2019-2020 school year. Applications are available online at  bit.ly/amesnhs or in the main office. Deadline for accepting applications is Friday, March 8th at 3:05 PM. Any questions can be sent to Ms. Cakrasenjaya in room 229.

AP EXAM REGISTRATION

Registration for AP exams will run through March 4.  The cost per exam is $94.  Sign up for the exams in Student Services, preferred payment for the exam is a check made out to Ames High School and is due at the time of registration. Late registration will not be accepted.  Once the tests are ordered from College Board, there will be no full refunds.

SEAL OF BILITERACY

The State of Iowa has adopted the Seal of Biliteracy to officially recognize high school graduates who are literate in more than one language. To receive the seal, students must demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one other language through approved assessments. Students must be able to read, write, listen, and speak in the language in which they test. Read more about the biliteracy guidance, including proficiency levels and accepted assessments here. 

At Ames High, the STAMP test will be offered during the school day on March 5th and 7th at a discounted cost of $17.50. Seniors should indicate their interest in qualifying for the Seal of Biliteracy at http://bit.ly/AHSseal by Monday, Feb. 25. Details about sign up for the test will be shared via email with those who complete the form.

It is expected that all technical problems will be resolved before submission otherwise the movie will not be considered.  Please Mr. Woolery for more information and guidelines.

The architects designing the new school will be discussing the status of the new school followed by a Q&A from the audience. It will be held at the District Office on 2005 24th Street from 6 to 7 pm on Thursday, February 21.

Dance Marathon is coming up quick! It will be held Saturday February 23rd and the t-shirts and tickets will be sold in the main lobby throughout this week.

The Girls Cross Country team is holding a fundraiser at Noodles and Co. today from 4-8 pm. We are trying to raise money to purchase a new cross country tent. All you need to do is mention that you are here for the AHS Girls Cross Country when you purchase your meal and we will receive 25% of that sale. We hope to see you there!

KURE 88.5, ISU’s broadcasting radio station is holding an open house today Monday, February 18th for students interested in broadcasting opportunities with this station.  Please see Mr. Anderson in student services for further information if interested. 

Join us, space nerds and climate activists, tonight and attend a lecture given by Cpt. Scott Kelly (an astronaut) about how we affect our planet and where the future of space exploration will go. It will take place at Stephens Auditorium at 7:00 pm! Doors open at 6, be there or regret it forever!

Happy Valentines Day,   

If you suspect you may be getting a special delivery today, you need to stop in the main office and see if it has arrived.    We will not be calling students out of class to get their surprises, but we may put your name on the monitors, so check that between classes.

Preferred payment is a check made out to Ames High School and delivered  Student Services by the student taking the test, not the parents of students who forget their check at home.     Late registration may not be accepted. To learn more about the biggest youth water organization in the world, come join Key Club today for a presentation by the Thirst Project!  Sign up under Mrs. Gillette’s name for plus period. The meeting is in Mr. Sullivan’s room, rm 121.   Hope to see you there!

This Saturday evening is the “It’s Okay With Me”  Dance at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Hyland Ave.   Event starts at 7PM and ends at 10PM. All high school students are welcome.  Admission is $5 at the door. All proceeds benefit the Trevor Project.

Team Neutrino will be revealing their new robot after 6 weeks of hard work this Sunday from 6-7pm at the ISU Biorenewables Complex Atrium! If you are interested in learning more about the team and getting involved in robotics,please make sure to come this Sunday from 6-7pm in the Biorenewables Complex Atrium.  More information can be found at our website www.teamneutrino.org.
