DAILY NOTES

 The 4-H Youth Conference will be June 25-27 on ISU campus. 4H grants available to cover application fees. See Mrs. Tibben MC15 for more information and application forms.   

Are you interested in helping to start a club for students of Latin and Hispanic heritage? Come to Room 46 during PLUS Period next Monday to discuss ways to support and grow within this community. For more details, ask Ms. Lowe.  

 Applications to be a Student Ambassador for the 2019/2020 school year are available in Student Services starting today. New AND current ambassadors must fill out the application if they would like to participate next year. Please return applications to Student Services by Tuesday, May 14th. Contact Grant Welk or Hana Lee for more information.

The Empower, Enrich, & Excel Summer Program has openings for volunteers for the three-week program in June. The sign-up sheet is located in the ELP Alcove in the Media Center. The deadline to sign up to volunteer is May 20. If you have any questions, please see the ELP staff.

A quick reminder to the class or 2019, you have been an amazing group of students to work with during your four years at AHS.  There has been many great accomplishments and you should be very proud of yourself and your friends.  Please finish this year demonstrating the same character and respect for our school and our community by not damaging or vandalizing the building with any senior pranks.  You do not want to jeopardize your ability to celebrate with your class by doing something that will tarnish the outstanding reputation you all have set for the class of 2019

Applications to be a Student Ambassador for the 2019/2020 school year are available in Student Services starting today. New AND current ambassadors must fill out the application if they would like to participate next year. Please return applications to Student Services by Tuesday, May 14th. According to AP policy, AP exam grades will be cancelled for any student who uses a cell phone during an exam or on break. Students need to bring pencils and a black or blue pen. CELL PHONES AND AP TESTING

Students taking AP tests are prohibited from having cell phones while testing. According to AP policy, AP exam grades will be cancelled for any student who uses a cell phone during an exam or on break. Students need to bring pencils and a black or blue pen. Student should check test locations posted outside of Student Services.

 

AHS DECA INTERNATIONAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE

Congratulations to the 44 AHS DECA competitors and leadership academy attendees at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando, Florida. Over 21,000 students from all 50 states and 10 countries attend to compete for a place on the grand awards stage. Freshman Shrey Patel qualified to compete in the final round at ICDC, finishing in the top 20 of his event.

 

DECA is an organization that prepares emerging leaders to be college and career ready. While the focus of competitive events is on business principles such as marketing, finance, hospitality, management and entrepreneurship, students who participate in the local DECA chapter also find themselves involved in service projects that help them further their commitment to community, as well as leadership activities that help them develop and enhance employability skills.

 

MATH TUTORING

After school Math support is available in room 212 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:30-5:30 PM.

 

THESPIAN BANQUET

The Thespian banquet is next Thursday (5/9) in the AHS cafeteria, 6:30-8:00 pm.  Students involved in theater and their parents are invited.  The banquet is being catered by Jethro’s BBQ and the cost is $5.00 per person. There is a sign-up document on the AHS Tech/Drama Google Classroom site. Students can also sign-up on the sheet in Mr. Schmidt’s room.

CURRENT NHS members: remember your last NHS meeting this year is during 2nd lunch today in the Multi Purpose Room.

Girl’s golf is holding a fundraiser at Blaze pizza today from 4:00-8:00pm. Ask a member of the team for a flier, as these fliers will be needed when being given proceeds to the team. Please come out and support your girls! 

Join Spectrum on Thursday May 2nd in the Audio Visual room for an Ally Day. We will be having a discussion and we invite all who are willing to come. Sign up for Plus period under Burke.”

CURRENT NHS members: we will have our last NHS meeting this year on Thursday, May 2nd during 2nd lunch in the Multi Purpose Room. If you can’t make it, please make sure to email Hana Lee. See you there!

The mental health fundraiser will continue all of this week. Make sure to get tickets before Friday before/after school, both lunches, and plus period! Win up to $70 in prizes and support a great cause.

Any Machine Safety students from 1st semester who would like to enter their projects in the Technology Expo at Southeast Polk this year, see Mr. Jahn or Mr. Scaramellino before Friday.

The Ames High 2019 Speech Showcase and end of year celebration will be held on April 30 at 6 pm in the auditorium. Light refreshments will be provided followed by awards and a showcase of speech participants from this year. All are welcome to come see All-State nominated performances as well as performances by those receiving 1-ratings at State.

Today is the last day to buy your $3 raffle ticket for a chance to win a 2018/2019 Yearbook during both lunches and after school in the main lobby.
