AHS Varsity FB @ Centennial – 6 p.m. Kickoff
Due to weather conditions, tonight’s game at Centennial will kickoff at 6 p.m., an hour earlier than originally scheduled. Please brave the weather and come out to support your Little Cyclones!

DISTRICT WIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY
There is no school district wide on Monday, October 9, as teachers participate in professional development.

PSAT TEST

The PSAT test is Wednesday, October 11 at 8:30 A.M. This is before Wednesday’s first period begins. Students must bring their student ID, and #2 lead pencils – no mechanical pencils.  Approved calculators can be used on one of the math sections. Students may not share calculators.  Cell phones will be collected when students arrive at their testing room.

HUNZIKER TOUR FOR SOPHOMORES NOT TAKING THE PSAT
Sophomores not taking the PSAT will board buses at 9:10.  They will be going to the Hunziker Center to find out about the career and technical education programs which earn both DMACC and AHS Credit. 

SENIOR CLASS PICTURE/GRADUATION ANNOUNCEMENT MEETING
The senior class picture is Wednesday, October 11th at 10:50 AM in the AHS gym. Ordering envelopes were handed out to students in homeroomWednesday. If students would like to order a photo, they must bring the order envelope with payment to the photographer on Wednesday
Following the picture, the senior class will stay in the gym and a representative from Jostens will hand out information regarding cap and gown ordering and graduation announcement order forms. The following week, on October 17th, the Jostens rep will be back at AHS from 10:53 AM-12:15 PM to take orders for graduation announcements.

SOPHOMORE CLASS RING PRESENTATION
A representative from Jostens will hand out information regarding class ring ordering on Thursday, Oct. 12 during plus period.  Jostens rep will be back at AHS on Tuesday, Oct. 17 during both lunches to take orders.

CONTRACT GRADE WITH A PASS/FAIL OPTION
Thursday Oct. 12th is the last day to sign up to take a class for a contract grade with a pass/fail option.  You can get the information you need from Student Services. 

ACADEMIC LETTER AWARDS PROGRAM
Parents of juniors and seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, please look for an email sent to you and your student.  It is an invitation to come to our Academic Letter Awards Program. The invitation includes instructions on how to RSVP to the event. The RSVP can only be filled out with an email address belonging to the school district. Therefore, your student will need to be signed into his or her school email to fill it out.

AP MICROECONOMICS or AP MACROECONOMICS
Any student interested in taking AP Microeconomics or AP Macroeconomics for the spring semester should stop in the ELP alcove to pick up an application. You will need to have one free period (not necessarily the same period each day) open in your spring schedule to accommodate one of these classes. Applications will be due October 26.

AHS BOYS GOLF 
Congratulations to our AHS Boys Golf team, who won Districts and qualified for the State Golf Tournament being held this Friday and Saturday in Marshalltown! Ames High will be represented by Connor Van Weelden, Ben Stewart, Sam Balsley, Ryan Cole, Nate Espeset, Carter Clayberg and Coach R.J. Voss.  Go Little Cyclones!

UGANDA SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT
If your Junior or Senior student is interested in participating in the Uganda Service Learning Project, she/he can get an application from Mr. Mooney in Room 107. Applications are due October 31st.

THE AMES HIGH ACADEMIC AND ARTS BOOSTER CLUB
The Ames High Academic and Arts Booster Club (AABC) needs your help. Please consider a donation that goes directly to students and educators for unique, creative, and innovative learning experiences. AABC supports academic activities, as well as the visual and performing arts at Ames High through supplemental funding. Some of our previous grant recipients include support of the Pollinator Project, which involves all high school biology students, and funding for the annual Great Gatsby party. These educational experiences are enhanced by AABC funding and encourage our students to be lifelong learners. AHS ATHLETICS HALL-OF-FAME BANQUET
Ames High Athletics’ 26th Annual Hall of Fame Banquet will be held on October 12 at 6 p.m. in the Ames High Cafeteria. Tickets are available for $10. Please RSVP by calling Ames High Athletics at 817-0611. This year’s inductees are Coach Kenny Graham; Erica Lynn (Douglas), Class of 2001; Mat Clark, Class of 2005; James Teas, Class of 2005; and Jeff Fisher, Class of 1996. Mark Ritland, Class of 1965, will be honored for his Distinguished Service to Athletics, and the Ames High Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award recipient is Connie Jo Israel, Class of 1972.
