There is no school Monday, January 16th, as it is a district wide professional development day.

Tuesday, January 17th, the first day of 2nd semester, we will have a normal schedule with the PLUS period.  Each student has a computer and can access her/his 2nd semester schedule on the Portal. We do not hand out a printed schedule to begin the 2nd semester.

9th, 10th, and 11th graders will BEGIN taking the Iowa Assessments on Thursday (1/19) and Friday (1/20), and finish the following week with testing on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. It is important that students give their best effort on these assessments. Parents can help by seeing the students are well rested and have breakfast before coming to school on the test days.  When we receive the results, we will be able to show each student the growth s/he has made since taking the tests last year.

Seniors won’t be testing so they do not have to be in the building during the test period. If seniors are in the building, they need to be either in the media center or cafeteria.

In a field of more than forty teams, all four Ames High Public Forum teams were among the sixteen teams that advanced to the octafinal round, including the novice team of freshman Hannah Huang and Silvia Aydinyan. The two varsity teams of juniors Ben Moats and Seamus O’Connor-Walker and sophomores Anu Lamsal and Hana Lee advanced to the quarter-final round. The team of sophomores Dakshina Paudyal and Helen Hu made it all the way to the semi-final round. Public Forum had more than 80 competitors, and Hana Lee placed third in the overall speaker rankings. The team’s two seniors competed in their final IHSSA State Student Congressional Debate event. Bailey Sterk received an excellent senator award in the A House and Nicole Flugrad won the B House.
