Students taking AP tests are prohibited from having cell phones while testing. According to AP policy, AP exam grades will be cancelled for any student who uses a cell phone during an exam or on break. Students should check test locations posted outside of Student Services. Students also need to bring pencils and a black or blue pen.

The AHS senior art show will be up through April 23rd in the multi-purpose room at Ames High School. The reception is Sunday, April 23rd from 12:30-2:00 PM with awards at 1:00 PM.

Sometimes we find who we are in a relationship. Sometimes we lose who we are in a relationship. Sometimes we get what we want in a relationship. Sometimes it is not our destiny. These are the themes the Ames High School Theatre Department will explore when they present John Cariani’s Love/Sick. Following the popularity of Almost Maine, Love/Sick is a series of nine vignettes that examine the lifecycle of love in various relationships. Beginning the evening is a one-act pre-show, The Fifteen Minute Hamlet by Tom Stoppard. Nine actors will recreate Shakespeare’s most infamous play in fifteen minutes. Shows are April 28 and 29 beginning at 7:00 PM. Admission is $5.00 for high school and older and $4.00 for 8th grade and younger.

The Ames High School Vocal Music Department will present their annual Spring Concert at 7:30 PM on Monday, May 1 in the high school auditorium. The following choirs will be performing: Freshmen/Concert Choir, Treble Choir, Treble Chorale, Bass Choir and Concert Chorale. The choirs are under the direction of Steven Linn and Peggy Dieter.

The Ames High School Bands will be presenting a Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 2 at 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM in the Ames High School Auditorium. The 6:30 PM concert features the Spring Jazz Project, the Ninth Grade Band and the Concert Band. The 8:00 PM concert features the Symphonic Band and the Wind Symphony. The bands are under the direction of Andrew Buttermore and Chris Ewan. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and $10 for a family.

In just over a month seniors will be celebrating their graduation from AMES HIGH SCHOOL! Encourage your senior to stay focused and finish strong these last 5 weeks of school. We know that parents of seniors have a very full schedule during April and May, so we have put together some dates to remember.

April 28/29 7:00 PM Spring Play
May 1 7:30 PM Spring Choral Concert
May 2 6:30 PM Spring Band Concert
May 22 7:30 PM Pops Concert
May 23 Last academic day for seniors
May 24 7:30 AM Graduation rehearsal in the AHS gym
              11:00 AM-1:00 PM Senior picnic
7:00 PM Baccalaureate at Ames Middle School. Prelude begins at 6:30 PM (Seniors who are attending should be at the middle school by 6:30)
May 28 2:00 PM Graduation at Hilton Coliseum – Graduates should be at Hilton by 1:15. They will march alphabetically starting on the west side of Hilton.

Graduating seniors will receive their cap and gown at graduation rehearsal. All fines and fees must be paid in full prior to receiving cap and gown! Don’t assume that if your senior doesn’t eat lunch at school that they don’t have a balance due. Balances from previous years follow the student until the balance is paid off. Parents can check their student’s outstanding fees/fines via the parent portal. Please check this often the week of May 15th, as some fines are assessed after senior textbooks are turned in. Feel free to call the main office with any questions: 817-0602. And remember, breathe and enjoy the time you have left with your senior!

If your daughter is planning to play softball for Ames High this summer, there is an informational meeting for parents/players on Thursday, April 27 at 6:30 PM in the Ames High Cafeteria. There are several items to be discussed, it is important that somebody from your family attend.

There will be a representative from Indian Hills Community College – Centerville Campus in Student Services at 10:15 on Monday, April 24. Please see Mrs. Evans in Student Services if you need a pass to visit with this representative.
