SEMESTER EXAMS
Next week semester exams will be given over three days, Tuesday, January 9th, Wednesday, January 10th, and Thursday, January 11th. Busses will run their normal times in the morning, with no late start on Wednesday, and pick students up at 1:45 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday, and at 11:30 AM on Thursday. Students on Thursday can get a quick lunch before getting on the bus.

DURING THE TESTING PERIODS:
Study halls, PE (except for make-ups), AI reading, Writing Lab, Math Lab and Study Skills will not meet. Students do not need to be on campus for any of the classes listed above. If students stay on campus, there will be a quiet study area in the media center. Otherwise, those students can be in the cafeteria – but not in the hallways.

ACCELERATION
Acceleration forms for students entering grades 9-12 interested in pursuing acceleration in the 2018-19 school year are now available. These forms can be accessed online via the Ames high School ELP Page or in the ELP Alcove at AHS. Forms are due to the ELP office located in MC-3 by February 9. Late applications will not be accepted.

KLEENEX REQUEST
AHS would like to make a request for Kleenex donations. Cold and flu season has hit us hard at AHS and we have a great need for Kleenex in the classrooms. Kleenex donations can be dropped off in the main office. Thank you in advance for your Kleenex donation.

REPORTING ABSENCES
The two most efficient methods of notifying the school of an absence are by signed note or phone call. Messages may be left on the attendance line at 515-817-0601 any time during the day or night. These messages are checked regularly during school hours, and are entered into Infinite Campus first. Please do not email absences to the secretaries, as these notifications are not processed as efficiently, and could result in an absence not being excused.

PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS BEFORE ABSENCES
If you know in advance of an upcoming extended absence due to a college visit, surgery, travel plans, or family events, please send a note with your signature. Your student will bring this note to the Attendance office to obtain a Prior form, which he/she will have their teachers sign to alert them about the upcoming absence. At that time the teachers will let the student know if there is work that needs to be turned in prior to the absence or after the student returns.
