ACT/SAT PREP CLASS
Students planning to take the ACT or SAT this spring: Mr. Webb and Mrs. Engelkes are offering an ACT/SAT Prep Class starting February 20th. The class will meet four Mondays for two hours each day (Monday, February 20th, February 27th, March 20th, and March 27th). There will be a section that meets from 3:15-5:15 PM and another that meets from 6:30-8:30 PM. The cost is $35 (checks preferred), which is waived for students qualifying for the Federal Lunch Program. Class size is limited to 25 students. Enrollment is on a first-come with the registration fee, first-served basis. Registration forms are available in Student Services. Registration deadline is TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14 at NOON. Please make checks payable to Ames High School.

WINTER MUSICAL: GUYS AND DOLLS
Guys and Dolls, curtain is 7:30 PM February 10 and 11, and 2:00 PM Sunday, February 12. Admission is $10.00 9th grade and older, $8.00 8th grade and below. Student activity tickets can be used for the Sunday performance ONLY.

BOYS SWIM
Good luck to the 8 boys state swimming qualifiers. The meet will be at the Marshalltown YMCA pool and will begin at 12:30 PM on Saturday.

SIX AHS U.S. PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARS CANDIDATES
Congratulations to the following Ames High seniors for being named candidates in the 2017 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program: Aaron Bendickson, Morgen Feeley, Neta Friedberg, Jana Kim, Takeshi Suzuki, and Maria Werner-Anderson.

WINTER CHORAL CONCERT
The Ames High School Choral Music Department will present their annual Winter Concert at 7:30 PM Monday, February 20th, in the high school auditorium. The concert will feature the Freshmen Chorus, Concert Choir and Concert Chorale. The choirs are under the direction of Steven Linn and Peggy Dieter. Admission is $3.00 for students, $5.00 for adults and $10.00 maximum for family. There will be a short reception in the cafeteria following the concert.

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
The Ames High School Science Olympiad team traveled to Warrensburg, MO last weekend to compete in a Science Olympiad Invitational competition against 27 other high school teams from Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. The Ames High School team finished 6th in the competition.

4th place ribbons went to:
Hannah Huang and Shria Chug for Disease Detectives
Jason Chen and Sarah Song for Dynamic Planet

Jasper Shogren-Knaak for Hovercraft

The next competition will be the Iowa State competition on March 25th at Coe College.

JAZZ ENCOUNTERS
Several jazz groups will perform varying styles of music including swing charts, ballads and more. Jazz Encounters 7:30 PM, Thursday, February 16 in the Ames High School auditorium.  Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and are available at the door.

AHS BLOOD DRIVE
The Ames High Senior Senate will hold its semi-annual blood drive on Friday, February 24 from 8:00-2:00.  Pre-registration will be Thursday, February 16 through Thursday, February 23 in the front lobby of the school.  Parents and community members are welcome to donate by signing up online at bloodcenterofiowa.org. Did you know that one-pint of blood can save up to three lives? Just think how many lives we can save!!

DANCE MARATHON
Dance Marathon is February 25th at 8:00 PM. Last year we raised almost $12,000 for the kids! This year we are hoping to raise $15,000. Please consider donating. All proceeds go to Iowa Children’s Miracle Network Hospital which supports children who are battling life threatening illnesses.
