Wrestling News
The Ames High Wrestling team finished a 2010-2011 campaign with a 10th place team finish at the Iowa State Wrestling Championships. Three of the four state qualifiers earned medals, highlighted by Jake Agnitsch’s hard fought match in the 112 pound final. Ben Swalla and Luke Swalla each finished fourth in their respective weight classes, while Nathan Twito was State Qualifier in his sophomore season.
The wrestling team has been on a steady march towards our goal of being a Top 5 team in the state. Over the last three years, Ames High has qualified 15 wrestlers for the State tournament, with 9 of those wrestlers returning as State Place Winners!
The steady progress is a great example of the belief and commitment our wrestlers show throughout the season, as well as their tremendous effort in the off-season. Many of our wrestlers are getting it done in the weight room, as well as making gains on the mat.
Sean Stender is once again running our Little Cyclone Freestyle Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and we have 30-40 wrestlers working hard to improve their wrestling skills.
This summer we will be attending the Wartburg Team Camp: June 25-28.
We will also be attending the University of Northern Iowa Team Camp: July 10-14.
Summer Open Mats will be scheduled at a later date.
