Girls Track News
The 2012 girls track season has a very knowledgeable staff, which will provide excellent opportunities for the girls participating in track this spring. Coaches of this year’s staff include: Ron McEachran, throwing events; Eric Cogdill, sprinters; Aileen Sullivan, jump coach; Rick Ballantine, hurdles; and Kirk Schmaltz, head girls coach and middle and long-distance coach.
The Ames girls track team will build from last season’s championship part of the season and continue that momentum into the beginning of this season. Ames is coming off an extremely strong finish at the state meet, where the shuttle hurdle relay team placed 2nd in Class 4A. Bailey Banach is the sole returning runner from the shuttle hurdle relay. Last spring’s squad placed second at one of six districts, where the team qualified in ten events at the state meet. Courtney Martin also returns for her senior year and will be a strong runner in the 3000, 1500 and 4x800 relay. This year’s squad has one of the largest senior classes in recent years to help us with another successful Ames High Girls Track season. |
