Boys Swimming News

The Ames High Boys' Swimming team earned a 5th Place finish at the 2011 State Championship. This was their 12th Top 7 finish in as many years.


Honors and Awards:

Relay of Jakub Stehlik, Eric Pahl, Bryan Bjorklund and Sam Wiedemeier earned an All-State finish with their 3rd place at state, set a new pool record at the Ft. Dodge Pool in route to qualifying and earned an All-American Consideration time.

The 200 Free Relay of Michael Stark, Seth Wills, Alex Pyle and Sam Wiedmeier set a new pool record at the Ft. Dodge pool in route to qualifying for the state meet and placed 4th.

Jakub Stehlik earned All-State, Runner-Up honors in the 200 IM and 100 Backstroke at the State Championships. Jakub set a new school record in the 200 IM and a new pool record at the Ft. Dodge Pool. He is also under All- American consideration for his time in the 100 Backstroke.

Byran Bjorklund and Eric Pahl earned Academic All-State Honors

Matt Bonestroo, Bryan Bjorklund and Eric Pahl all earned Academic All-American Honors for the 2010-2011 season.

Coach Flannery is a graduate of Iowa State University with a BA in Spanish
and will receive his Masters degree in Coaching in Physical Education from Ball State University in May of 2008. He was a member of the ISU Men's Swim team and captain for the 1998 season. He was a member of the Big 8 Championship team in 1995 and the undefeated team in 1998. Coach Flannery was a high school All-American in the 200 Freestyle and swam for Johnston High School in Des Moines.
