"Working Together to Create Lifelong Learners."

Edwards Elementary School Welcome Letter

Welcome to Edwards Elementary School! Our shared vision states “We strive to prepare, inspire, and support all students to be learners for life.”

Student success comes as the result of caring teachers that provide effective instruction, as well as parent(s)/guardian(s) that are involved in their child’s learning. Our students come from diverse backgrounds that enrich our learning environment, and we work to make everyone feel included and comfortable in our school.

At Edwards we maintain high academic and behavioral expectations for students. We emphasize teaching students to act in harmony with the guiding principles of good character. We do this by guiding students to be positive, independent and intrinsically motivated learners.

Edwards is a K-5 three-section building that opened its doors in 2014. Our enrollment hovers around 400 students. The school is named after David Edwards, a member of the Ames Board of Education for 18 years; and this new building replaces the original Edwards that was built in 1951. Our building is designed to use technology as a tool for learning, from microphones for amplifying teachers’ voices in the classrooms to Apple TV for projecting computer information. We work to be responsive to the needs of our students and families to enhance learning. As a team, we provide Educational Excellence for your child.

Sincerely,
David Peterson, Principal
