AMES-When the Ames High School football team steps onto the field for its first home game of the season next fall, it will be doing so on state-of-the-art field turf, thanks in large part to generous donations from the Ames community, alumni, and local businesses.

Thursday, May 14, at 2:00 p.m., Ames High School and its athletic department will be celebrating the project with a groundbreaking ceremony at Ames High Stadium.  Donors, Ames Community School District (ACSD) Board members, school and district officials and project contractors will be on hand for the ceremony.  And shortly afterward, work on the project will get underway.  According to AHS athletic director Judge Johnston, work on the new field turf is expected to begin as early as the afternoon of the groundbreaking or possibly the following day.

Iowa Athletic Field Construction Company, and Sprinturf are contractors for the project.

Approximately 90% of the cost of the project will be paid for through donated funds and in-kind services.  The ACSD Board of Directors voted to allocate Physical Plant and Equipment (PPEL) funds for the remaining 10% of the project.

The public and media are invited to attend this event.  Ames High School is located at 1921 Ames High Drive.  Ames High Stadium is located directly behind the high school.
