AMES—Ames High School (AHS) will dismiss at 1:15 p.m. Friday, May 13, instead of the usual 3:05 p.m. dismissal time.
AHS principal Spence Evans explains that on that afternoon, the school District’s current eighth grade students will be visiting the high school for a special orientation session. Says Evans, “We at Ames High School want to give our incoming freshmen a first-hand high school experience before they arrive for the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year.” He said the Ames Middle School (AMS) eighth graders, the Class of 2015, will meet staff and learn more about being an Ames High School student.
The eighth grade class will be transported to the high school by bus, under the supervision of AMS staff, and will return to the middle school before the end of the school day to be dismissed from there. In order to make room for the more than
300 visiting students, the high school will dismiss its current students at 1:15 p.m.
