Fellows School music teacher’s final project
is “Mikado” performance.

AMES—Fellows Elementary students will perform an abridged version of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Mikado” at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, at the Ames High Auditorium.  

The students will reprise the performance for their Fellows peers on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 9 a.m. in the Ames High Auditorium.

This production represents the culminating project for Fellows music teacher Cynthia Marten’s teaching career, which spans more than 34 years. Marten plans to retire at the close of the current school year.

Besides the large cast of talented students, Marten has secured the assistance of one of her former protégés, Ames High graduate Chris Tuttle.

“You would never believe how much fun it is to work with a former student,” Marten said.

Tuttle, who played the Pirate King in Marten’s production of “The Pirates of Penzance” when he was a senior at Ames High, went on to attain his degree in music from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. With many theatrical performances to his credit, he’s the director, producer, and founding company member of The Story Pirates with whom he performs all around New York and across the country.

“The Mikado” production staff includes Laurie Hoifeldt, choreography; Andi Nadler, art direction, sets and props; and Deb Linch, costumes.

There is no admission charge for this performance.  The Fellows PTO has contributed funds to support the production.
