AMS Monday reminders 2/8/12
Parents Advisory CouncilDr. Tim Taylor addressed the most recent Parents Advisory Council Meeting with a presentation on the District’s facilities plan along with a question and answer period. Parents then filled out a questionnaire for upcoming topics to be discussed as well as feedback for the principal and staff at Ames Middle School. The next meeting will be 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6.
PIZZA PALOOZA!
Ames Middle School Pizza Palooza is THE place to be on Thursday, Feb. 23. The Ames Middle School Booster Club for Academics, Arts, and Athletics invites you to attend this fund-raising event with your family from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Ames Middle School.
Each homeroom will be gathering items for a theme basket to be auctioned off that night. You can purchase items for the basket(s) of your student(s) grade/homeroom and send them in with your student to be given to their homeroom teachers. Or, if you would prefer to donate directly and let us shop for you, please send cash or check earmarked "Baskets" and our committee will make the best use of your donation. We would like to have all items turned into homerooms by Wednesday, Feb. 15.
Please consider supporting Pizza Palooza through your business. We are looking for donations for our silent auction. Your products, services, or gift cards can promote your business and help raise money for the school at the same time. For more information, contact Jackie Bayouth at jkbayouth@gmail.com.
The new AMS Pizza Palooza replaces the annual Chili Chowdown event. Remember this is the biggest fund-raiser of the year for AMS students. Please be generous with your time, talent, and donations as we prepare for this awesome evening of fun for everyone!

School closings, delays and early dismissals
The District website at www.ames.k12.ia.us lists information and policies about school closings, delays and early dismissals. This year, in addition to the other methods of communication, the District will also be posting closing/delay/dismissal information on its Facebook page. Look for it by visiting Facebook and searching for “ACSD Schools.”
Also, you may receive school closing information using the Iowa School Alerts program. You will receive school alerts immediately via email notification. To sign up for this free service go to https://schoolalerts.iowa.gov to create an account.
We recommend that middle school parents discuss an emergency early dismissal plan with their child(ren).

No Child Left Behind
Under the federal education law, commonly known as No Child Left Behind, parents have a right to know the professional qualifications of their children’s teacher(s). It is the right of a parent to ask for the following information about each of their children’s classroom teachers: Whether the State of Iowa has licensed or qualified the teacher for the grades and subjects he or she teaches. Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency or provisional status for which the State of Iowa licensing criteria have been waived.
The teacher’s college major, whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and, if so, the subject of the degrees. If you would like to receive the information regarding your child’s teacher, please contact the Office of Human Resources at the Educational Services Center at 515-268-6612. The Ames Community School District is committed to the success of your child and we appreciate your partnership in our efforts.
