Ames Chapter National Honor Society

Membership in the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for secondary students.   Chapters in more than 12,500 high schools across the nation strive to give practical meaning to the society's goals of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.  These four ideals are considered the basis for selection.  No student is inducted simply because of a high academic average.  The National Honor Society strives to recognize the total student.

A description of selection procedure will be published in an official school publication that is widely available to all students and parents of the school. The selection procedure will be determined by the Faculty Council and will be consistent with the rules and regulations of the National Honor Society.

National Honor Society members are chosen for and then expected to continue their exemplary contributions to the school and community.  Membership, however, is more than an honor.  It incurs a responsibility and an obligation to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that resulted in selection.

The National Honor Society of Secondary Schools granted National Honor Society Charter membership to Ames High School in September of 2003.
