| What do I need to know about the computers at AHS?
All Ames High students MUST sign an AUP to use the computers at school. With a signed AUP, students have a login and password and have a folder on the server to save files. Please take your AHS student ID card to the media center desk for login information.
The computers in the media center are available before, during, and after school on a first-come, first-served basis. Computer labs are for class use only but may be used with permission.
Save your work often! This should be done every few minutes, especially after every major change. Also, backup your files! Files can be backed up to a CD, DVD, flash drive, your Google Apps account, etc.
THINK GREEN! Please only print what is necessary. Do not logout of a school computer until your file has finished printing. Please use the printer-friendly versions of webpages when printing directly from a web browser.
Bring files from home on a flash drive or CD-R, email yourself the file, upload it to your Google Apps account, or you can access the student server from your home computer.
Please note: If your version of Microsoft Office at home saves documents with an "x" at the end of the file extension (for example: .docx), be sure to save down (File -> Save As) to a previous version of the program if you need to open the file at school. When emailing word processing documents to yourself to open at school, attach the file to the email but also copy and paste the text of the document into the body of your message to have that as a backup.
For your safety, your computer may be remotely monitored at any time at school. |
