AMES HIGH SCHOOL NEWS

Presidential Semifinalist
Congratulations to Lauren Naylor, Ezgi Ustundag and Victor Wang for being semi-finalist in the United States Presidential Scholars Program.  They now have the opportunity to compete to be a finalist.

Eighth grade parent meeting
This is a reminder that Ames High School’s 8th grade parent night to provide information regarding course selection for the 2012/2013 school year is Monday, February 13. Students are welcome to attend. This meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria and you’ll be on your way home by 6:30 p.m. There will be a pre-meeting for parents of students in the ELP program at 5 p.m. in the multi-purpose room- next to the media center.

Winter Choral Concert
The AHS Choral Music Department will present their annual Winter Concert on Monday, February 13th, 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium.  The concert will feature the Freshmen Chorus, Concert Choir and Concert Chorale.  The choirs are under the direction of Steven Linn and Peggy Dieter.  Laura LaGrange will be the piano accompanist.  Admission is $3.00 for students, $5.00 for adults and $10.00 maximum for family.  There will be a short reception in the cafeteria following the concert.  

Jazz Encounters- A Night of Jazz
The Ames High School jazz ensembles will be presenting Jazz Encounters, A
Night of Jazz on Thursday, February 16 at 7:30 PM in the AHS
cafeteria. Several jazz groups will perform varying styles of music
including swing charts, ballads and more. Table seating and light refreshments provided.  Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and are available at the door.

AHS Symphonic Band Hosts Concordia College Band
The AHS Symphonic Band will be hosting a joint concert with the Concordia College Band on Friday, February 17 at 7:30 pm in the AHS Auditorium.  The Concordia College Band from Moorehead, Minnesota, under the direction of Dr. Scott A. Jones, is one of Concordia's oldest and most distinguished performing ensembles.  Since its formation in 1899, the band has earned national and international recognition, including in 1935 when it was the first Concordia music ensemble to tour abroad. They are appearing as a part of their tour of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and South Dakota.  Dr. Jones was the guest conductor of the 2011 Iowa All-State Band.  Admission is open to the public with a freewill offering.
